The new JChem Microservices uses the latest generation search technology that can handle large datasets. Microservice architecture has a modular setup, so instead of one monolithic application, we have smaller modules with specific functionalities. JChem Microservices provide small, separate modules for different areas of ChemAxon functionalities like chemical dataset searching, conversion between chemical file formats, or chemical property calculation. This is scalable, easily manageable, and cloud-agnostic. In this webcast, we will show you how to set up a highly available architecture using Microservices, and demonstrate an example using Enamine search as a service.

Even though there are plenty of open source tools on the market every company needs to put them together and create a test automation framework on top. Best practices of doing that are quite well-known in industry and it is important to learn them before building your own framework. We will go through the core building blocks of test automation frameworks and how they are playing together. You will learn how to assemble your test automation toolchain out of open source libraries and how to integrate them together. The session will be heavily biased towards Java platform.

SWORD : simple web service offering repository deposit; Open Repositories 2008, Southampton; Julie Allinson This paper presents an overview of a JISC (Joint Information Systems Committee) activity to scope, define and develop a deposit specification for use across the repositories space, which has come to fruition within the SWORD (Simple Web service Offering Repository Deposit) project 1. It will look both at the background and how this piece of work came to pass, the movement from informal working group to funded project, the lightweight project construction and the resulting protocol and technical outputs. The paper will also consider the future of SWORD and look at some of the activity which has already galvanised around the project outputs.

SWORD (Simple Web-service Offering Repository Deposit) will take forward the Deposit protocol developed by a small working group as part of the JISC Digital Repositories Programme by implementing it as a lightweight web-service in four major repository software platforms: EPrints, DSpace, Fedora and IntraLibrary. The existing protocol documentation will be finalised by project partners and a prototype ‘smart deposit’ tool will be developed to facilitate easier and more effective population of repositories.

One of the great advantages of an Open Source Library System (OSLS) such as Koha or Evergreen is the ability to empower staff and optimize the user's experience by getting involved in improving the software. This is in contrast to the traditional integrated library system (ILS) model where all the software development was done by "the vendor," creating a condition of "learned helplessness" on the part of library staff. By making the transition to OSLS, you can shift the culture of your organization from "learned helplessness" to one in which everyone can contribute to enhancing their work environment. This webinar will describe all the ways to get involved with an OSLS project -- even if you aren't a programmer. By the end of the webinar, you will understand why involving your organization in an OSLS project creates opportunities for delivering new services to customers and optimizing the work of your staff.

For our next ArcReady, we will explore a topic on everyone’s mind: Cloud computing. Several industry companies have announced cloud computing services . In October 2008 at the Professional Developers Conference, Microsoft announced the next phase of our Software + Services vision: the Azure Services Platform. The Azure Services Platforms provides a wide range of internet services that can be consumed from both on premises environments or the internet. Session 1: Cloud Services In our first session we will explore the current state of cloud services. We will then look at how applications should be architected for the cloud and explore a reference application deployed on Windows Azure. We will also look at the services that can be built for on premise application, using .NET Services. We will also address some of the concerns that enterprises have about cloud services, such as regulatory and compliance issues. Session 2: The Azure Platform In our second session we will take a slightly different look at cloud based services by exploring Live Mesh and Live Services. Live Mesh is a data synchronization client that has a rich API to build applications on. Live services are a collection of APIs that can be used to create rich applications for your customers. Live Services are based on internet standard protocols and data formats.

Corporate and higher education. Two industries that, in the past, have had a clear divide with very little crossover. The difference in goals, learning styles and objectives paved the way for differing learning technologies platforms to evolve. Now, those stark lines are blurring as both sides are discovering they have content that’s relevant to the other. Join Tammy Rutherford as she walks through the pros and cons of corporate and higher ed collaborating. And the challenges of these different technology platforms working together for a brighter future.

Dubai, often portrayed as a shimmering oasis in the desert, faces its own set of challenges, including the occasional threat of flooding. Despite its reputation for opulence and modernity, the emirate is not immune to the forces of nature. In recent years, Dubai has experienced sporadic but significant floods, testing the resilience of its infrastructure and communities. Among the critical lifelines in this bustling metropolis is the Dubai International Airport, a bustling hub that connects the city to the world. This article explores the intersection of Dubai flood events and the resilience demonstrated by the Dubai International Airport in the face of such challenges.

The microservices honeymoon is over. When starting a new project or revamping a legacy monolith, teams started looking for alternatives to microservices. The Modular Monolith, or 'Modulith', is an architecture that reaps the benefits of (vertical) functional decoupling without the high costs associated with separate deployments. This talk will delve into the advantages and challenges of this progressive architecture, beginning with exploring the concept of a 'module', its internal structure, public API, and inter-module communication patterns. Supported by spring-modulith, the talk provides practical guidance on addressing the main challenges of a Modultith Architecture: finding and guarding module boundaries, data decoupling, and integration module-testing. You should not miss this talk if you are a software architect or tech lead seeking practical, scalable solutions. About the author With two decades of experience, Victor is a Java Champion working as a trainer for top companies in Europe. Five thousands developers in 120 companies attended his workshops, so he gets to debate every week the challenges that various projects struggle with. In return, Victor summarizes key points from these workshops in conference talks and online meetups for the European Software Crafters, the world’s largest developer community around architecture, refactoring, and testing. Discover how Victor can help you on victorrentea.ro : company training catalog, consultancy and YouTube playlists.
