This document summarizes a student's site visit and research project on elements and the built environment. The student visited a river, stone eco resort to conduct research. At their site, they observed rocks, leaves, logs and sand as non-living things, and studied the dragonfly and its lifecycle of egg, nymph and adult stages. They also examined the ecosystem involving flies, dragonflies, birds, and the differences between dragonflies and damselflies. Additionally, the student researched ferns and their lifecycle and ecosystem. The student describes their five senses and what they saw, heard, tasted, felt and smelled during their observations and research at the site.
10. LIFE CYCLE OF DRAGONFLY
Egg stage
Dragonflies lay
eggs on the surface
of the water.
Nymph stage
When eggs hatch, the
dragonfly’s baby—
nymph was born. It
lives in calm water
such as pond and
marshy area
Adult dragonfly stage
When the nymph is fully
grown and weather is
correct, it will crawl out and
shed it’s skin. Finally a
young dragonfly is born.
17. WHAT IS ECOSYSTEM?
An ecosystem is a community of plants, animals and smaller
organisms that live, feed, reproduce and interact in the same area
or environment.
18. FIVE SENSES
SEE
I saw many beautiful scenes of
nature that cant be found in the
city. It feel calm and peace. The
river also clear and no dirt or
rubbish. I can see through the
water unlike the rivers in the
city.
19. HEAR
I can hear lots of insect’s
sound especially at
night, their sounds are even
louder. At my site, when I
was taking picture, I heard
lots of bird chirping and their
sounds are sweet and calm.
20. Taste
I saw the water in the river
in the river was clear so I
was curious about the taste
of it. I drank some of the
water, they are fresh with bit
slightly sweet but overall it
was tasteless.
21. FEEL
When me and my group were doing
research in the way to the forest, a
tiny bug flew on my hand. The few
minutes it stand on my hand, I feel
itchy because it was crawling on the
hand. Before it fly away it bit my
hand, it was just slightly pain but
there was a red itchy mark appeared
few moment after.
22. SMELL
I was doing the research about
the fern so I am curious about
the smell of the fern. I smell the
fern but it was odorless so I
broke it’s stem into half and I
smell a smell that similar as a
grass and vegetables, so I just
conclude it as the smell of the
combination of grass and
vegetables.
23. THE JOURNEY
Depart from Taylor’s
University
Put our backpack into our
dorm and start our activity.
Giving some speak and
explain about the brief.
24. Find our site for research and
investigation. We settle down
our sites and measure all about
our site. We also discover some
plants and insect or small
creatures that can be found in
our sites.
