An e-portfolio is a collection of electronic evidence that allows students to reflect on their own learning and awareness of learning needs. It provides tools to save academic and professional evidence over time to demonstrate progress to others. There are three main types: developmental portfolios for teacher evaluation of student progress; reflective portfolios to document goals and standards; and representational or showcase portfolios for achievements and job applications. E-portfolios are characterized by social interaction, evidence collection, reflection, organization, and feedback/evaluation. They allow students to include a variety of media like documents, videos, blogs, and pictures to demonstrate skills development and reflective, collaborative learning.
