pleasing. I was extremely impressed with the atmosphere at the recent Phonics

Once a detailed analysis of these has been done, I will highlight some of the major

At last, the Netball C Team have played some league matches. On Thursday they
                                                                                          Don’t forget the Quiz night
were away to Kew Woods and comfortably won by 9 goals to nil, despite pre-match
nerves! The following night they were home to St Philips. It was an exciting match, on Friday November 14th
but with quick, accurate passing they beat them 12-2. A superb start to the season.
Well done everyone!

Jolly Phonics Parents Workshop
Parents of children in Year R came in, for a Jolly Phonics workshop last week. They were able
to learn more about Jolly Phonics and try out some simple, fun, practical ideas to enable them
to support their child at home with reading and writing.
Midday Supervisor
If anyone is interested in becoming a Midday Supervisor here at Norwood, we do have vacancies. If you are available
Monday to Friday between 11.45 and 1.15 pm and would like to work as part of our team, please introduce yourself
to Mrs Bennet. We would also be interested in hearing from anyone who would be willing to do this on a casual basis
just covering for absences from time to time.
Headlice
Please check your child’s head for lice over the half term holiday. After half term, if headlice are
seen crawling across your child’s hair, we WILL be contacting parents to take their child
home to treat the hair. Remember to check the hair behind your child’s ears and in the nape of
the neck - the warmest areas - for live lice and eggs. Use conditioner and a fine toothed comb to
dislodge the eggs and this will ensure that the live lice cannot grip the hair. See your chemist
for further info.

‘A’ Team 7 A-Side Football Tournament at Stanley High School
Results: Norwood 0 Farnborough 2
         Norwood 1 St.Johns 0
         Norwood 1 Larkfield 2
Mrs Rigby reports that after yet again being placed in the hardest group with Farnborough, Norwood battled hard,
only allowing in two goals, in their first game against the 7 A-Side Champions, Farnborough. Norwood’s second
game proved more positive with an excellent strike from defender, Jack Rimmer, to give Norwood a pleasing one nil
win! The final game saw Larkfield take a two goal lead before Norwood’s Matthew Howard drove his fierce shot past
the Larkfield keeper to score a stunner. The game ended 2 – 1 to Larkfield.
Well done to the boys, who were a credit to our school.
Man of the Tournament: Jack Rimmer
Team: Jake Rigby, Jack Rimmer, Jack Ashworth, George Griffiths,
Lewis Lankshear, Charlie Gray, Daniel Edwards, Simon Gradwell, Jack Spencer, Matthew Howard, Kallum Graham,
Joshua Young, Lewis Harwood.
‘B’ Team Football Match Report
                                      Norwood ‘B’ 0 Kew Woods ‘B’ 5
The torrential rain of the previous night really made this game much more fun to watch than normal as both teams
struggled to kick the ball out of the large puddles and thick mud. Kew Woods’ team - always one
of the best in our league - played very well and despite some superb goalkeeping from David
Gomersall and later Luke Dempster, the game was one sided. Our other highlight was a wonderful
long mazy run from Josh Knight, who deserved a goal.
Man of the Match: Josh Knight
Team: David Gomersall, Luke Dempster, Tom Leddy, Matty Aitkenhead (capt.), Josh Knight, Josh
Wright, Ben Hirons, Sam Travis, Ben Mills, Aaron Richards, Jake McMinn, Stephen Barker and Lewis
Watkinson.
                            Churchtown ‘B’ 2 Norwood ‘B’ 1
Mr. Dumbell’s return to his former school was not a happy one as we were unable to break down Churchtown’s
strong defence, despite a lot of possession. After they went 2 goals up from a fine shot and an own goal, we fought
back well. Ryan Ashall went on a super run from his own half to hit a powerful shot past the Churchtown keeper
before Josh Knight’s right foot drive hit the bar and bounced down onto the line, which was so unlucky. Unfortunately
not enough players showed the energy and enthusiasm to want to win the game and there will be a few changes for
the next match at home against Kingswood on Thursday 6th November.
Man of the Match: Ben Mills
Team: David Gomersall, Luke Dempster, Tom Leddy, Matty Aitkenhead, Josh Knight (capt.), Josh Wright, Ben Hirons,
Sam Travis, Ben Mills, Aaron Richards, Jake McMinn, Stephen Barker, Ryan Ashall and Reece Ashall.

Remember to check the hair behind your child’s ears and in the nape of the neck - the warmest areas - for live lice and eggs. Use conditioner and a fine toothed comb to dislodge the eggs and this will ensure that the live lice cannot grip the hair. See your chemist for further info.
  • 3. Shinewaves Competition Time Last weeks competition was for a joke that would make the office staff smile even more than usual. There were lots of entries and after some careful consideration, with a smile factor of 10, the winning joke was submitted by Hannah Tear from 3R. “How do you spell mouse trap in three letters - C, A, T”. Congratulations Hannah! Other contenders: Why did the teacher send Dracula’s son home? Because he was coffin so much. Katy Watkinson 2L How does a cow moo with no lips? Oooooooo. Camren Coulson 2L Why do seagulls fly over the sea? Because if they flew over the bay they would be bagels! Georgia Lonsdale 3R Why did the chicken cross the yellow brick road? Because, because, because, because !… Olivia Shaw 2M What do cats put in soft drinks? Mice cubes! Jessica McNamara 5P ‘A’ Team 7 A-Side Football Tournament at Stanley High School Results: Norwood 0 Farnborough 2 Norwood 1 St.Johns 0 Norwood 1 Larkfield 2 Mrs Rigby reports that after yet again being placed in the hardest group with Farnborough, Norwood battled hard, only allowing in two goals, in their first game against the 7 A-Side Champions, Farnborough. Norwood’s second game proved more positive with an excellent strike from defender, Jack Rimmer, to give Norwood a pleasing one nil win! The final game saw Larkfield take a two goal lead before Norwood’s Matthew Howard drove his fierce shot past the Larkfield keeper to score a stunner. The game ended 2 – 1 to Larkfield. Well done to the boys, who were a credit to our school. Man of the Tournament: Jack Rimmer Team: Jake Rigby, Jack Rimmer, Jack Ashworth, George Griffiths, Lewis Lankshear, Charlie Gray, Daniel Edwards, Simon Gradwell, Jack Spencer, Matthew Howard, Kallum Graham, Joshua Young, Lewis Harwood. ‘B’ Team Football Match Report Norwood ‘B’ 0 Kew Woods ‘B’ 5 The torrential rain of the previous night really made this game much more fun to watch than normal as both teams struggled to kick the ball out of the large puddles and thick mud. Kew Woods’ team - always one of the best in our league - played very well and despite some superb goalkeeping from David Gomersall and later Luke Dempster, the game was one sided. Our other highlight was a wonderful long mazy run from Josh Knight, who deserved a goal. Man of the Match: Josh Knight Team: David Gomersall, Luke Dempster, Tom Leddy, Matty Aitkenhead (capt.), Josh Knight, Josh Wright, Ben Hirons, Sam Travis, Ben Mills, Aaron Richards, Jake McMinn, Stephen Barker and Lewis Watkinson. Churchtown ‘B’ 2 Norwood ‘B’ 1 Mr. Dumbell’s return to his former school was not a happy one as we were unable to break down Churchtown’s strong defence, despite a lot of possession. After they went 2 goals up from a fine shot and an own goal, we fought back well. Ryan Ashall went on a super run from his own half to hit a powerful shot past the Churchtown keeper before Josh Knight’s right foot drive hit the bar and bounced down onto the line, which was so unlucky. Unfortunately not enough players showed the energy and enthusiasm to want to win the game and there will be a few changes for the next match at home against Kingswood on Thursday 6th November. Man of the Match: Ben Mills Team: David Gomersall, Luke Dempster, Tom Leddy, Matty Aitkenhead, Josh Knight (capt.), Josh Wright, Ben Hirons, Sam Travis, Ben Mills, Aaron Richards, Jake McMinn, Stephen Barker, Ryan Ashall and Reece Ashall. Walk to School Week Thank you to everyone who took part in Walk to School week. The award for the class with the most walkers went to 2L and 3R who both had a total of 125 walkers over the week.
