Shinewaves Competition Time
Welcome back to competition time.
We have changed our broadcast day from Tuesday to Thursday to give you a bit more time to enter the competitions if you
want to.
Now, this year is an Arts Festival Year -YIPPEE!! Most of you will know that Norwood is renowned for its Arts Festivals. We
have so much to look forward to: drawing, painting, music making, singing, authors, dancing and much, much more! The
theme of the festival, this year, is ‘Once Upon A Time’
So, this week’s competition is to design a festival logo. It must be a black and white design, either drawn or computer
generated. It must be enclosed in a shape around 8cm wide by 5cm high and can include an image if you wish. The
following information MUST be included: The words ‘Arts Festival’ the date ‘4th - 15th July’ All Norwood pupils are invited to
enter and there will be a prize for the winner.
The winning logo will be incorporated into the t-shirt. There will be another competition, next year, to design the image for
the t-shirt. SO... get designing!
Pop your entries, with your name and class on the back, into the competition post box by the morning of Wed 15th
September.

3. Behaviour Update
A new term and we are finally ready to roll out the changes to our behaviour system. Next week we will be
having the official launch in our assemblies. A leaflet for parents will follow, explaining how the system works.
Staff will also talk about the changes at the Year Group Information Meetings next week.
Our main goals are:
*to recognise children who are consistently well behaved
*to quickly address unacceptable standards of behaviour, involving parents at an earlier stage
*to connect our current ‘Golden Time’ to a single system of rewards and sanctions
We value your views and will be requesting your thoughts and comments on our new system when the leaflet
goes out (look on the back!).
The Behaviour Team’s next development will be to review and update the Anti-Bullying Policy.
Cycle Training
The majority of Year 5 and some of the children from Year 6 will undertake a Safe Cycling course which will last 4 weeks.
The course starts Friday 10th of September and hopefully at the end of the course they will all be proficient on the roads.
We wish all the children luck.
Remember your helmet & cycle lock!

4. Year One Reading Fun Morning
If you have a child in Year One then please feel free to come along to our fun reading sessions every Wednesday
morning from 8:50 till 9:10. This is fantastic opportunity to share a story or two with your child and their friends. We
look forward to seeing you from next week!
The Hoot Hoot Mobile
The Hoot Hoot Mobile was made out of scrap materials that we found. We have worked really hard on the Hoot Hoot
Mobile . There were 6 members who helped to build it. They were Emily, Joseph and Errin Telford Age 10, from
Norwood and Eric, George and Ruby. The machine has been a great success! They all had jobs; such as bosses (Joe
& Eric) security etc. So far they have raised just over £400 for cancer research. They really enjoyed building this
piece of machinery. Joe and Eric initially came up with the idea and they soon enlisted the help of their friends. They
are also selling cancer research badges and have all received volunteer badges from the cancer research shop on
Lord street.
