for issuing a Canadian passport is generally 20 days
after the submission of complete form.
6. Passports in Canada are generally issued for the period
of five years for adults and 3 years for children aged
below 3. There is no provision of extension in case of
Canadian passport and one has to apply for a new
passport 12 months before the expiry date. The

application are original proof of Canadian citizenship, 2
photographs of the applicant duly signed by the
guarantor and a valid identity proof.
7. The identity proof might include provincial or territorial
driver’s licence or provincial or territorial non driver’s
licence or provincial or territorial health care card or
other municipal, provincial, territorial or federal
identification card. Proofs such as military identification
card, old age security card and municipal, federal,
territorial or provincial identification card may also be
used for the application.
8. Role of guarantor is also very significant for Canada
passport application. To be eligible for the post of
guarantor the person must have a Canadian passport
which is valid or has expired not more than a year ago.
The guarantor must also be acquainted with the
applicant and must know her / him for at least two years.
In case of children she / he must know the parents for at
least two years. Only Canadian citizens whose age is 18
years or more are eligible to be a guarantor. The person
should also be accessible to the passport Canada office
when verification takes place.
9. A guarantor’s passport is not considered legitimate if it is
unreachable or damaged. It is also not considered valid
if it is suspended or revoked or has been reportedly lost
or stolen. In case if the passport has been returned or
destroyed by Passport Canada then also it would not be
considered legitimate.
