HAIKU is a traditional form of Japanese poetry. It’s an unrhymed three-line poem.Haiku poems
consists of three lines. The first and third line of a haiku have got 5 syllables and the middle
line has 7 syllables.
4. Here’s a HAIKU to help you to remember
I am first with five
Then seven in the middle
Five again to end.
Because HAIKUS are such short poems, they are usually written about things that are
recognizable to the reader. Animals and seasons are examples of recognizable topics children
might enjoy exploring.
ACTIVITY 1.
1. Syllables’ time: I will read aloud different HAIKUS and pupils will find out their syllables
by clapping.
ACTIVITY 2.
2. WHAT AM I?? HAIKUS
This act like a riddle. The writer uses the haiku to describe something. The other children in the
classroom can then attempt to guess what the poem was describing after listening to or
reading the HAIKU. I am going to use different internet resources so the pupils can see how is a
haiku. I will write different poems for them to guess.
ACTIVITY 3.
3. PUT IN ORDER.
I will give a HAIKU to my pupils on different papers, for example I will write
THE- SUN-IS –YE-LLOW in five different papers
5. AND-MY-NIGHT-IS-MUCH-LON-GER In seven different papers
IF- MUM- IS –NOT- HERE. In five different papers.
And I will give the papers to my pupils so they can stand up and re-write the poem in order.
ACTIVITY 4
4. SEASON: first you will want to select a season spring, summer, autumn or winter. You
could write about nature: animals, plants, the sky, the ocean, the wind and so on. Start
by selecting a topic and then decide what do you want to say.
In order to make it easier for my pupils we will work before in groups at the classroom and
they will write vocabulary in a little piece of paper, a lot of words about nature and their lifes:
school, family, animals…
ACTIVITY 5
5. Bookmarkers: children will create their own bookmarker with their own poems and
they will share them or even they can give it as a lovely gift to their friends or family.
Some OBJECTIVES
To review vocabulary and to renew it. Main vocabulary about nature and their
feelings.

6. PLACES:
