NOTE : Use laser pointer to highlight where most of the declarations have taken place, which are down in the Rio Grande valley, in the highly-populated areas in and around Houston, and in North Texas in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Explain what Presidential Declarations are and what they mean to the disaster situation. It means reimbursement, which is why record keeping is so important. Avoid getting bogged down about the specific counties. Focus on the 2 areas in Texas most frequently receiving disaster declarations.
Are there any questions that I can answer for you today about the Texas Exercise Program and YOUR Exercise? It has been a pleasure to be with you today and we are looking forward to a great LEARNING EXPERIENCE with you over the next months. Thank you. If we can be of further assistance to you or you have any questions after we leave, please feel free to contact us by E-mail or telephone. Thank you for your time and attention.
These are the Texas Terrorism Preparedness Objectives. PLANS: Develop/refine your city/county emergency operations plan (EOP) and terrorism incident annex (TIA). TRAINING: Training prepares both individuals and cities/counties to respond to a WMD terrorism incident but as importantly, prepares you to respond to any major disaster. EXERCISES: This is the way we determine how viable and complete our plans are. This provides you with a measure of how prepared you are to deal with a major incident in the city and/or county. Again, the secret to success is teamwork. Putting together those who will respond to an incident in Midland/Midland County and Odessa/Ector County. The program is intended to sustain the abilities of the locals and state to respond to a WMD Terrorism Incident. We will go into the sustainment later in this discussion.
