5. Miami certainly made the biggest splash early on in free agency, signing two
of the best players available in speedy wide receiver Mike Wallace and Super
Bowl winning linebacker Dannell Ellerbe. The Dolphins continued the
spending spree from there, bringing in wide receiver Brandon Gibson and
tight end Dustin Keller on the offensive side of the ball, along with linebacker
Phillip Wheeler and cornerback Brent Grimes to help the defense. The
Cowboys are 5-2 all-time against the Fish in the preseason.

OVERVIEW
6. Offensive guard Nate Livings didn’t participate in this morning’s walkthrough due
to a sore knee, and, as Jason Garrett put it in today’s press conference, because
“he’s kind of managing his way through a couple different deals” that could keep
him out for up to two weeks
Compounding the situation for the Cowboys is the fact that Livings is the fifth
interior lineman who’s out due to injury: Starting right guard Mackenzy Bernadeau
is likely out until next week, Kevin Kowalski bruised his knee earlier this week and
is likely out for two to four weeks, and both Ray Dominguez (shoulder) and
OG/OC Ryan Cook (back) are out as well.
That leaves the Cowboys with just four healthy interior linemen who can suit up
on Sunday: Ron Leary, Phil Costa, Travis Frederick and David Arkin are all that is
left at the moment. All four will therefore get extended playing time, though
Garrett hasn’t finalized those details yet.

DALLAS COWBOYS
7. The Dallas Cowboys are going to have to contend with Dolphins quarterback
Ryan Tannehill at least for a short time during Sunday night’s Hall of Fame
Game in Canton, Ohio, but how much he and the rest of the starters play was
still to be determined, coach Joe Philbin said Friday. Philbin said Tannehill
“absolutely” would play in the exhibition opener, when starting units typically
play a couple of series before giving way to backups and free-agent hopefuls.
But after what Philbin called a sloppy practice Friday afternoon, the team
prepared to fly to Ohio while the coaches huddled on playing time.

shoulder surgery, running back DeMarco Murray and wide receiver Dez
Bryant, who missed four days of practices with a sore hip and quad.
