136. Freshers is considered a key time to engage a future generation of ABC1
consumers about the products and services they need, both now and in the
future. The student market in the UK alone is said to be worth over €22 billion,
and young people drive the spending in numerous sectors; from fashion and
entertainment to alcohol, snack foods and mobile.
This is a moment of great optimism, excitement and receptiveness among
independent young people. For brands it’s an opportunity to be visible as their
target audience begins making many purchasing decisions for the first time.

140. Virgin is using technology from Los Angeles-based Causecast, which offers
Volunteer Tracking and Rewards, a cause integration platform for nonprofits and
brands that lets companies incorporate volunteer opportunities into their
campaigns and digital media efforts. The technology enables potential
volunteers to find opportunities in a specific area and to track their activities and
earn rewards points while giving Virgin Mobile control over which nonprofits are
supported and allowing the company to track the program’s impact.

142. Youth Marketing Connection (YMC) looked to replace its aging web content
management system and manual reporting processes with a more flexible
solution that combined ease of use with sophisticated reporting and business
intelligence capabilities. With its former system, YMC relied heavily on external
development resources to build fully branded websites and reporting tools based
on client requirements. But this approach was too costly and time consuming,
which hampered the company’s efforts to meet its own aggressive growth goals.
YMC turned to Microsoft Gold Certified Partner Concurrency for help in
implementing Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010 to gain a single, extensible
platform for content management, document sharing, and collaboration. By using
SharePoint Server 2010, YMC has saved 20 hours a week on event
management and is better equipped to adapt to evolving client needs.

144. Ask most tweens and teens how they typically watch TV and they'll likely say
online, whether it's on their computer, tablet, or mobile device. Viewing shows on
the web has become the norm for this generation and their preference to
consume content on portable devices is changing the nature of the
entertainment industry. To further understand this shift in Millennials' viewing
habits, we chatted with Brian Robbins, a TV veteran and the creator
of AwesomenessTV, a professional YouTube channel that launched earlier this
summer and has seen much success in reaching youth with a slew of short form
programming.
