There are volcanoes on land and under the sea.

There are three types of volcanoes:

Active volcanoes erupted and can erupt again.
Dormant volcanoes are sleeping.
Extinct volcanoes can`t erupt again.
Kilauea is an active volcano in Hawaii. It`s the most active volcano in the world. The island of
Hawaii is growing bigger and bigger because of the eruptions.

Arenal is an active volcano in Costa Rica. Tourists go to see the volcano at night.

.
Mount Fuji in Japan is dormant at the moment. Its last eruption was in 1707.
Anatahan is an extinct volcano in the Pacific Oceano. Scientists said it was extint but it
erupted in 2003.
Vesuvius is an extinct volcano.
It´s in Italy.
There was a terrible eruption in the past.
When Vesuvius erupted there was a lot of ash. It was impossible to breath and lot of pepole
died.
The ash covered the city of Pompeii.

Two men discoverd the ruins of the city in1595.
They did lots of excavations and they discovered houses, streets, shops, sculptures,
paintings...
Today lots of people from all over the world visit the ruins of Pompeii every year.
The underwater volcanoes
can grow so big that islands
form.
The Galapagos islands are
volcanic islands. They are
near the coast of Ecuador.
There are 13 big islands
and 6 small islands. There
are still eruptions in
Galapagos Islands.
Other volcanic islands are:
Canary islands in Spain,
Sicily in Italy, Hawaii in the
USA, Japan in the Pacific
Ocean...
