2. Facts of coffee
• What is coffee?: Coffee is a brewed
beverage, that has a bitter flavor.
• Where does it come from?: Coffee beans
are found in coffee cherries which grow on
trees that are found in the equatorial region.
• The Process: When it’s picked, the coffee
beans are then processed and dried. After this,
the beans are roasted, pounded and finally,
brewed to make coffee.
• Trade: Coffee is one of the most important
commodities that is traded all over the world.
• History: It is believed that coffee was first
found in Ethiopia.

3. Where is it grown?
Starbucks sources most of the coffee beans from the three major coffee growing
regions: Latin America, Africa/Arabia, and Asia-Pacific.
The countries in these regions that make the coffee are Brazil, Colombia, Costa
Rica, Guatemala, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania,Côte
d’Ivoire, Uganda, India, Indonesia and a very small amount from Hawaii.

 Starbucks was the one which made coffee
really popular all over the world.
 People like star bucks because the coffee
it sells tastes really good.
 Long ago, farmers did not get good money
for the coffee they grew but, the
companies that sold this coffee were
getting very rich. But nowadays people
are supporting fair trade.
 Starbucks supports fair trade and claims
that it gives good money to farmers. This
makes the company more ethical.

Starbucks started in Seattle, USA in
1971.
Starbucks started in china in 1990’s
and today there are more than 1000
star bucks stores in china.

6. Is Starbucks
local or global?
 Starbucks opened its first store in Seattle, USA and then it spread to
over 50 countries with more than 15,000 stores across the world.
This is definitely a global product.
