Robot and Driverless Car
• Robot is like a people it can do what people do so it can help us a
lot. Robot can be use in many ways, for example in medical, factory
or in the house.
• Driverless car is a project by Google . The software powering it is
called Google Chauffeur, it is a car that could be drive with no driver
and navigate you to the destination by itself. Driverless vehicles
sense their surroundings with such techniques as radar, lidar, GPS,
and computer vision.
History of driverless car
• The Google Self-Driving Car is a project by Google that involves developing
technology for autonomous cars. The software powering Google's cars is called
Google Chauffeur. Lettering on the side of each car identifies it as a "self-driving
car". The project is currently being led by Google engineer Sebastian Thrun, former
director of the Stanford Artificial Intelligence Laboratory and co-inventor of Google
Street View. Thrun's team at Stanford created the robotic vehicle Stanley which won
the 2005 DARPA Grand Challenge and its US $2 million prize from theUnited States
Department of Defense. The team developing the system consisted of 15 engineers
working for Google, including Chris Urmson, Mike Montemerlo, and Anthony
Levandowski who had worked on the DARPA Grand and Urban Challenges.
• The U.S. state of Nevada passed a law on June 29, 2011, permitting the operation of
autonomous cars in Nevada. Google had been lobbying for robotic car laws. The
Nevada law went into effect on March 1, 2012, and the Nevada Department of
Motor Vehicles issued the first license for an autonomous car in May 2012. The
license was issued to a Toyota Prius modified with Google's experimental driverless
technology. In April 2012, Florida became the second state to allow the testing of
autonomous cars on public roads.
History of robotics
• The history of robots has its origins in the ancient world. The modern
concept began to be developed with the onset of the Industrial
Revolution which allowed for the use of complex mechanics and the
subsequent introduction of electricity. This made it possible to power
machines with small compact motors. In the early 20th century, the
modern formulation of a humanoid machine was developed. Today, it is
now possible to envisage human sized robots with the capacity for near
human thoughts and movement.
• The first uses of modern robots were in factories as industrial robots –
simple fixed machines capable of manufacturing tasks which allowed
production without the need for human assistance. Digitally controlled
industrial robots and robots making use of artificial intelligence have
been built since the 1960s.
Use of Robot
• People are too lazy to do their work so they use robot to do.
• For old people robot can help to do the work too.
• In factory or industrial the boss can use robot instant hire a workers
because it would be cheaper.
• Robot can use in car factory like making a car so it more faster and
easier like assemble a motor.
• Robot can be use in medical way like in bypass or operate because
on hard case of operate doctor couldn’t be sure in operate by
themselves so robot would be better and neater.
Use of driverless car
• Driverless car will be very useful with the people with a small kid
because while you driving you can take care of your child.
• Driverless car help to delivery thing automatic because you don’t
need driver.
What it will look like in the future?
• Driverless Car will be like a normal car but just add the cable or
satellite or GPS on the top of the car.
• Robot would be look like a people but it will be more look
complicate like mechanic.
News
• From http://www.washingtonpost.com
• For the past few years, Google has been test-driving Lexus SUVs
retrofitted with self-driving technology. On Tuesday, the
company announced it would test the technology in its own cars. It also
gave a preview to reporters gathered for a conference in California. The
electric-powered car is simple: two seats, two buttons and a screen that
displays the route. A combination of laser and radar sensors do all the
work, rendering a brake pedal, steering wheel and accelerator pedal
unnecessary. (Right now, the cars are monitored by Google employees
when they’re out on the road.) It looks like a golf cart wearing a silly hat.
Intentionally adorable, the car is designed to encourage acceptance of
self-driving technology. The cars will rely on Google’s road maps to get
around. The driver will be able to summon the car using a smartphone
application, and the car will automatically drive to the destination
selected on the app, the New York Times reported. The only manual
controls are a stop/go button and an emergency button.Christopher
Urmson, director of Google’s self-driving project, told the Times that the
cars will have a range of about 100 miles, with a motor roughly
equivalent to that of a Fiat 500e.

Driverless vehicles sense their surroundings with such techniques as radar, lidar, GPS, and computer vision.
  • 5. History of driverless car • The Google Self-Driving Car is a project by Google that involves developing technology for autonomous cars. The software powering Google's cars is called Google Chauffeur. Lettering on the side of each car identifies it as a "self-driving car". The project is currently being led by Google engineer Sebastian Thrun, former director of the Stanford Artificial Intelligence Laboratory and co-inventor of Google Street View. Thrun's team at Stanford created the robotic vehicle Stanley which won the 2005 DARPA Grand Challenge and its US $2 million prize from theUnited States Department of Defense. The team developing the system consisted of 15 engineers working for Google, including Chris Urmson, Mike Montemerlo, and Anthony Levandowski who had worked on the DARPA Grand and Urban Challenges. • The U.S. state of Nevada passed a law on June 29, 2011, permitting the operation of autonomous cars in Nevada. Google had been lobbying for robotic car laws. The Nevada law went into effect on March 1, 2012, and the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles issued the first license for an autonomous car in May 2012. The license was issued to a Toyota Prius modified with Google's experimental driverless technology. In April 2012, Florida became the second state to allow the testing of autonomous cars on public roads.
  • 6. History of robotics • The history of robots has its origins in the ancient world. The modern concept began to be developed with the onset of the Industrial Revolution which allowed for the use of complex mechanics and the subsequent introduction of electricity. This made it possible to power machines with small compact motors. In the early 20th century, the modern formulation of a humanoid machine was developed. Today, it is now possible to envisage human sized robots with the capacity for near human thoughts and movement. • The first uses of modern robots were in factories as industrial robots – simple fixed machines capable of manufacturing tasks which allowed production without the need for human assistance. Digitally controlled industrial robots and robots making use of artificial intelligence have been built since the 1960s.

  • 10. News • From http://www.washingtonpost.com • For the past few years, Google has been test-driving Lexus SUVs retrofitted with self-driving technology. On Tuesday, the company announced it would test the technology in its own cars. It also gave a preview to reporters gathered for a conference in California. The electric-powered car is simple: two seats, two buttons and a screen that displays the route. A combination of laser and radar sensors do all the work, rendering a brake pedal, steering wheel and accelerator pedal unnecessary. (Right now, the cars are monitored by Google employees when they’re out on the road.) It looks like a golf cart wearing a silly hat. Intentionally adorable, the car is designed to encourage acceptance of self-driving technology. The cars will rely on Google’s road maps to get around. The driver will be able to summon the car using a smartphone application, and the car will automatically drive to the destination selected on the app, the New York Times reported. The only manual controls are a stop/go button and an emergency button.Christopher Urmson, director of Google’s self-driving project, told the Times that the cars will have a range of about 100 miles, with a motor roughly equivalent to that of a Fiat 500e.
