LESSON PLAN 3/24/2010 – E-Commerce Practicum
HOOK: “If you listen to what I have to say the next 5 minutes, you will learn a skill that you can use for the rest of your life to help you answer almost any question. BUT you must listen to me carefully and do everything I tell you.”
[Necessary to get you “hook” onto the lesson – works with adults and children]
Objective: Students will be able to understand the concept of sample selection bias, analyze the concept in context, and come up with an example by explaining the bias away with a proxy variable.
[Must be centered on one concept, be action based, and be measurable]
EXPLAIN: Explain the concept.
I DO: Example, education (beyond high school) and income (of this class), explain away with law student proxy.
WE DO: Class example.
YOU DO: YAM your own example.
[A pedagogy technique in order to immerse student in the concept. I can use for law students, but for 13-year-olds, pictorial and games may be more useful during the “EXPLAIN” portion]
INCENTIVE: COOKIES, YAM POINTS, and my SPELLCASTER VOITE!!!
[Adults, as children, work best on incentives, i.e., Professor Fairfield guilt us into working into wee hours of the night with food and caffeine]
