Intel presented information on their Atom processor-based platforms for embedded systems. They discussed the Queens Bay Atom E6xx and Cedar Trail Atom N2000 and D2000 series processors. Cedar Trail offers improved performance over previous generations through a 32nm process, faster memory and graphics. Development kits are available to help designers evaluate and integrate the Atom platforms into their products. Future generations will provide continued enhancements for embedded and mobile intelligent devices.

On a high level, there are two major contributors to the advancements on this platform. One contributor is that the latest Intel Atom processors—the N2000 and D2000 Series are built with 32nm process technology—A shrink from the previous generation. This shrink allows for lower leakage, which helps save in power and aid in increased performance. These processors offer the first Intel Atom CPUs breaking the 2GHs barrier! All this to say, these new processors are driving leadership in performance/watt. The second contributor is that these processors have a new graphics core for enhanced graphics. This new core allows for 1080p as well as hardware accelerated HD-Decode. The predecessor platform (the 400 and 500 series) did not provide full hardware decode support. The new core also allows for Blu-ray, and dual independent display via multiple options including Display Port and HDMI.
