Citing Sources from
Gale Literature Resource Center :
JOURNAL reprinted in a BOOK
now available ONLINE
2. How do you know if your source a Journal or Book?
~Scan the “Source” section for dates:
A journal has a season and issue number.
A book has a year for the date, as well as Publication details,
such as the city and publisher.
3. Our example is a journal article.
-It was in print originally
-Then it was printed in a book
-It is now available online
journal
book
We can tell this because
1. It has publication & source information
4. Also, if you scroll to the bottom of the article, you will see the
citation. The notation “Rpt.” indicates this was reprinted.
Oftentimes, the bottom citation will make the source
information clearer than the top information.
5. Since the original publication format is journal, begin
your citation with “Journal.”
6. Since this is an article from a journal, reprinted in
a book select “Reprint in a book.”
