Day 1 of IIT placements kicked off with a bang on Tuesday with international
recruiters rolling out close to 40 offers with salaries of over `66 lakh).$100,000 (.A
clutch of companies including Oracle, Microsoft, Google, Visa and US-based
employment related search engine Indeed rolled out international offers with a
base pay of at least $100,000 -not including reloca tion, joining bonus or Esops.
Factoring the variable component into the equation -including Esops -the total
packages offered by some companies like Google were as high as `. 2 crore.
Early indications, IIT sources said, suggest that this year will see a significant growth
both in hiring numbers and salaries offered, especially from domestic companies.
According to IIT placement sources, Microsoft and Oracle were offer ing base pay in
the neighbourhood of $100,000-110,000. This could go up to $125,000-140,000
and more if certain variables are included. Visa was another big paymaster offering
a salary of around $115,000, say sources.

Three students at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur have received offers of
about `. 1.4 crore per annum, not including bonus and accommodation, breaking its
last year's highest offer record of ` . 93 lakh per annum. The offer was made by an
international electronics and information technology company based in Asia. A
total of 37 companies were participating on Day 1 at Kanpur.
A few foreign recruiters including the likes of ServiceNow (which has been
blacklisted at IIT-Madras), Uber International and Twitter (which showed interest
but did not confirm) were missing. But IITs also managed to attract recruiters like
Bloomberg UK at IIT-Madras and Indeed at IIT-Bombay .
At IIT-Madras -where rains played havoc in the second half of the day -Microsoft
made three international offers while firsttimer Bloomberg UK recruited 2, with 2
more on the waitlist at the time of filing the report. Visa and Oracle made 1 offer
each.This was in addition to the preplacement offers rolled out by some of the
companies. Texas Instruments, Samsung R&D, Goldman Sachs, BCG were among
other companies that recruited at the Madras campus.

Facebook, another big-ticket recruiter offering crore-plus packages, skipped the
final placement process because of visa issues but has recruited students from the
Batch of 2016 across some IITs through the pre-placement route.
At IIT-Bombay , recruiters included the likes of Tower Research Capital, Goldman
Sachs and Sony Japan. Core engineering companies visiting the campus on Day 1
included the likes of Shell, GE, Airbus and Tata Steel.
IITs were reluctant to reveal salary details after recent guidelines to the effect
issued by AIPC (All-IITs placement Committee).
However, according to placement sources, on the domestic front, WorldQuant was
among the highest paymasters, offering around ` . 41 lakh per annum.Goldman
Sachs paid around ` . 30 lakh, Oracle India around ` . 18-20 lakh, Google around ` .
25 lakh and Microsoft about ` . 21 lakh for Indian roles. Goldman Sachs and
Microsoft were among the major recruiters in terms of domestic offers rolled out.
