Presentation scheduled for 19 Feb 09; 1300 - 1350 LSU Introduction: The Coast Guard is tasked with operating and maintaining the U.S. Loran-C radionavigation service to meet the needs of air, land, and marine users. Under the supervision of Coast Guard Headquarters in Washington, DC, the Loran Support Unit provides support in all aspects for the Loran-C navigation system through projects, design, modification, and field testing of electronic equipment. LSU currently supports 2 Control Stations, 24 Loran-C Transmitting Stations, 24 Primary Chain Monitoring Sites throughout North America, as well as support to Canada, with whom we share radionavigation responsibilities. LTjg Dahlen Introduction: LTjg Dahlen is a project manager in the Engineering Division tasked with modernizing the LORAN system. His background includes 11 year service in the LORAN community with service at 2 transmitting station, instructor for LORAN timing and tube type transmitters, and a short tour at an OMEGA transmitter station. LTjg Dahlen gained an additional 3yr experience with radio and navigation systems while serving on the heavy icebreakers CGC POLAR STAR and CGC HEALY.
