1. Tutorial Groups

2011-12
• All first year undergraduates to receive, in Welcome Week, the
names of a personal/academic tutor and the members of their
tutorial group
• Each tutorial group to meet twice in the first term (at the
beginning of term and again near the end); and three more
times, across terms 2 and 3
The content of these meetings is at the discretion of the programme
team.
In this year also, CADQ will work with School contacts, to develop the
academic plan for a fully-articulated tutorial group system, to be
implemented in 2012-13.
2012-13
• As before, all first year undergraduates to receive the names of a
personal/academic tutor and the members of their tutorial group
• Each tutorial group to meet frequently over the course of the 3
terms
The content of these meetings will be at the discretion of the
programme team, but they must adhere to a set of institutional
characteristics.

2. Assessment and feedback
Three week turnaround for assessment feedback
2011-12
Where ever possible, assessment feedback to be returned
within 3 weeks of the submission date
During this transition year, colleagues may also seek advice on
longer term strategies such as: assessment re-design;
electronic submission; and marking and moderation practice.
2012-13
All assessment feedback to be returned within 3 weeks of the
submission date
Large pieces of work, for which the student has received
feedback on work-in-progress, may be exempt from this.
This information will be communicated to students in the
programme Assessment and Feedback Plan.
E-submission and computer assessment
The use of technology to support assessment is being
encouraged.
Inclusive assessment
Programmes are also encourage to reflect on the inclusivity of
their assessment practices.

5. The Student Charter
Heading
The new Student Charter comes into effect from 2011-12. The
Charter sets out some minimum expectations with respect to
provision of programme information, induction and assignment
timeframes.
Note: The other key University initiative for 2011-12 relates to
student representation, and in particular School student fora.
This in itself is not likely to feed directly into curriculum and
programme design, but programme teams should be
encouraged to reflect on how they will engage in productive
exchange with students about the programme.
