8. Artigli is an Italian brand, franchised by
the lovely Claire Formosa on our islands.
The 23-year old business woman is the
owner of an independent shop; Emporio,
and also of the franchised brand.
With a love for fashion and anything
pretty, Claire, with the help of her family,
opened two Artigli stores – one in Gozo
and another one in Plaza, Sliema – and
three Emporio stores – two in Gozo and
another one in Sliema, as well.
Italian style, I must admit, is my favourite.
From the casual every day wear to the
eccentric evening pieces – Italians know
best. Claire has a weakness for Italian
style, so no wonder she opened an Italian
franchise in her country.
Spring/Summer 2013 at Artigli is a
colourful, wonderful one.

9. Denim /
Florals
I mixed a denim shirt with floral
shorts to create a casual, morning
look. Button up to the neck the
denim shirt, and you can add
a statement necklace to it, and
you’re good to go.The make-up
applied was fun and hip – pink
lips and purple eye shadow.

10. See-Through Knits
Mix a colourful knit with a pair of denim shorts and
sandals and go have fun in the sun.You can wear it over
a bikini or a simple vest to turn it into a more summery
kind of look. Summer is all about fun, so don’t be afraid to
splurge some colour to your outfit.

11. Prim and Proper
A one-shoulder salmon dress was
chosen for this trend. Perfect for
a morning wedding or a special
occasion.We put some fun into
this dress by putting on gold
bracelet cuffs and a chained gold
belt to give the trend a bit of edge.

12. Monochrome
Black and white are in now.We
matched a gorgeous black and
white striped shirt with a pair
of black trousers and black shoe
boots – perfect to seal the deal.
We gave this trend a rock ‘n’ roll
edge by using a lot of black eye
shadow and red lips.

Who are you and what do you
do?
My name is Federico Peltretti, I am a
photographer from Bologna, Italy.
I started my career in fashion
photography in my home city, but
it wasn’t so booming so I moved
to Milan where I worked and collaborated with various
designers and magazines.
I moved to NY where I lived for 4 years. I grew a lot in
my profession. They say: once you live in NY you are a
New Yorker. I moved back to Europe looking for a simpler
lifestyle, NY is busy! The American lifestyle is definitely not
for me. I had enough of cool times, time to go back to
simplicity and Malta is now the new promise land for me.
What do you love about being a photographer?
I love the creativity, the possibility to create something
endless, still in the time from the reality. I love to see the
world , the people in a different way, to look over what is in
front of you , to see it different.
”Malta is
now the new
promise land
for me.”
Federico Peltretti Interview

Best photo shoot ever
was
Well, difficult to say, do not
really think there is one in
particular that should be
considered the best, I love
them all.
Describe your perfect day
Wake up next to my girlfriend,
have a coffee and a cigarette. I
love to have breakfast outside
and then a nice photoshoot
in a great location. Going
back home after the shoot to
download and edit the shots
of the day. I also love to cook
some Italian delicatessen. But
mostly I love the sun. With the
sun shine, it’s already a perfect
day!
What are your plans in
Malta?
I am planning to work on
many projects with awesome
people, enjoy the relaxed life,
the sun, the Mediterranean
food and fantastic sea. I want
to enjoy the simplicity of the
life, because that is the secret
of living.

23. Biography
Svetlana is a 20 year old
emerging fashion and portrait
photographer. She has
experienced life in different parts
of the world by originally coming
from St. Petersburg, Russia and
later on living in Bournemouth,
England for a year to manifest her
creative desires at AUB, all while
living in Malta in between. Raised
in a creative environment; art,
fashion, music, dance and acting
were instilled at a very young age
and have been the priorities of
this girl for many years. This is
particularly why much of her work
surrounds themes in fine art and
fashion. As she remains in Malta
to spread her name, she’ll be on
her way back to the UK by the
end of Summer to continue her
studies, travels and life-changing
experiences.

“The first time I took a
photo, I was around 7 years
old. I had just gotten a film
camera in the shape of a
penguin as a present, and
arrived at my dacha for
the beginning of summer.
I spent 2 weeks carefully
taking photos of the beauty
in the forest around me,
and I made sure I did not
waste the film. As I looked
through that lens I felt
the magic just blind me.
Of course, a month later
I went to check up on my
supposedly developed
film at the photography
store and to my terrible
dismay they said the film
was blank. I later found out
that my dad had opened
the back of the camera by
mistake, and since then I
have always had a longing
to capture moments and
never let them go. I had
put so much time and
effort into something that I
wanted so badly to achieve
as a young girl, and got
absolutely nothing in return
except for heartache. Those
images which cease to
exist, still haunt me to this
day.”
Short, or rather, long quote
27. What do you think about fashion
and style?
I was brought up in a very creative
household. For starters, my mother was a
Russian prima ballerina.I watched her all
throughout my childhood performing on
stage, and this is how I first got influenced
by fashion - by those dramatic and
theatrical costumes that most people
didn’t wear on the street! I understood
that costumes in dance and drama
conveyed personalities, emotions and
feelings without even saying a word,
so I’ve grown up realising that it is true
: Fashion is a means of a designer
expressing him or herself, and style
is a means of expressing ourselves
through fashion! Needless to say,
I highly appreciate the existence
of fashion and style, it is an art in
itself and me being the creative
individual that I am, will always be
one with anything aesthetic.

Love your hair
Vigorous
Working with Pavli is always
fun, crazy and exciting and this
is a reflection on Le Soleil D’or
shoot. My 3 Vigorousettes looked
amazing in their do’s, done
but undone, messy up-dos are
definately in for Spring.
There are up-dos that are
sleek and shiny and covered in
hairspray so they don’t budge,
and then there are the ones that
aren’t so “done” .... the kind that
only get better as the day wears
on. In 2013, effortlessness is the
key to a chic yet sexy up-do.

What I loved about this photoshoot
was the uniqueness of three different
models representing three different
looks of “pureness”. White is one of
the biggest Spring/Summer trends for
2013 and based on this trend I wanted
to show different styles of wearing
it. Orsika was wearing a very elegant
peplum, bandeau dress. I wanted to
twist the feel to more rock-ish and
added loads of silver bold accessories,
big earings and necklaces. Marthese
was wearing more feminine pencil skirt
and lace body. I paired that feminine
look with a tribal accessories and gold
chunky bangles. Francecsa was pure
pureness model in this shoot. Her youth
and freshnes was pinpointed by casual
day wear.

“I knew that the theme had to be based on
something pure and fresh.”
47. 047ISSUE 4 S/S 2013
I wanted each model to look
uniformed but unique.
The purest was Francesca,
I applied a light coverage
foundation for her freckles to
show and lightly dusted pink
on her eyelids. I applied lots
of mascara for a doe eyes
effect and finished with baby
pink lipstick to give her the
“innocent” look. Marthese was
more of a “vixen” and I wanted
to team her beautiful red hair
with bold red lipstick. I used
bronze tones on her eyes and
gold shimmer to give her skin
a sunkissed glow, with a touch
of black eyeliner. The rebel of
the shoot was Orsika with bold
orange lips and extremely dark
smokey eyes, we wanted to
give her a “punked up” vibe.
Together the girls wore white
but the personality and make
up gave them presence and
emphasised the uniformity
with a contrast to each other.

Colour,
Colour and
more colour!
That is what Spring/ Summer 2013 Make Up trends
are all about!
Gone were the days of the no-make up look, this
spring, the flawless look is back! Many runway shows
were sporting the flawless look were a natural but
perfect finish was given to the models.
by Denise & Martina from All Things Fabolous
allthingsfablous.blogspot.com
Beauty edit
49. Past runway seasons introduced a healthy glow, however, this spring,
a matte, many including the likes of Roberto Cavalli, Alexander
McQueen and Alexander Wang sported a velvet finish. Other shows
such as Valentino dubbed a pinky glow whilst Balmain played up
that pinky glow with some contouring giving that bronzed feel to
the skin.
Eye make up this spring was
probably the most diverse and
most played up on the runway!
From playful eyeliners to bold
eye shadows to luscious lashes,
Spring/ Summer 2013 trends
have a bit of everything!
Although some runway shows
sported very bold looks,
one can still not that some
designers still opted for that
natural look played up with a
strong black eyeliner which
was smudged to obtain a soft
feel to pull the look together.
This look graced the runways
at shows like BCBG, Roberto
Cavalli and Lavin whilst the
likes of Diane von Furstenberg
and Christopher Kane sported
this look just on the lower
lash line. Other shows such as
Thierry Mugler and Miu Miu
sported the famous cat-eye
with eyeliner flicked out for
that dramatic effect!

Coloured eyeliner was very
popular this season. Models
at Stella McCartney sported a
metallic blue green eyeliner on
the water line, whilst Michael
Kors models sported a bold
turquoise and green eyeliner
placed above the crease of the
eyes whilst models at Kenzo
sported an interesting take on
the coloured eyeliner with a gap
left in the middle of the lower
lash. The most daring eyeliner
was seen at Fendi were three
different pieces of fabric were
glued under the models eyes
to create a neoprene eyeliner in
order to integrate the eye look
and the collection together.
Full on Bright and Bold eye
looks were sported at a number
of shows, from fuchsia eyes at
Donna Karan to silver metallic
eyes at Chanel, this season is
full of colours! The most popular
shades used were shades of blue
and green such as the striking
royal blue at Versus and the
bejeweled aqua eye at Dior.

More natural tones were sported
at shows such as Louis Vuitton
who dubbed a Glossy Peach Eye
whilst models at Chloe sported a
copper winged, cat eye look.
Lashes played a very important
role this season from feminine
lashes at Gucci to clumped
lashes at Veronique Leroy to full
on heavy lashes at Moschino. From Left to Right: Louis Vuitton
(Fairchild archive), Chloe (imaxtree)
Every runway season make up
look is not complete without
strong brows! Strong, clean
brows were sported at Etro
whilst models at Anthony
Vaccarello sported strong brows
that sported an un-kept feel.
On the other hand, Givenchy
decided that brows were not
that essential so models sported
bleached brows!

52. Apart from statement eye looks, many designer shows completed their
overall make up look with a bold statement lip! This season, however, the
matt lip was heavily used!
Neon lips were by far the brightest of the bunch with bold coral lips seen
at Missoni and vibrant fuchsia shades seen at Giles.
Red lips were still a staple
colour with a range of red
hues from pinky-red shades
at Oscar de la Renta to
cherry red lips at Rochas to
the va va voom red at Jean
Paul Gaultier to the deep
reds seen at Burberry and
Jonathan Saunders.

This polish in the day wouldn’t attract
too much attention, but then at night
under UV black light these beauties
glow in the dark. The new collection
by Illamasqua is being launched 30-4-
13 and is called “PARONORMAL”.
They are also introducing a clear
polish which when applied over your
favourite colours will also make them
glow. I can see this replacing the neon
summer trend and I love it!

trends this is the must have!
