- 26 Questions (A-Z; P,R,E,S and
I are star- marked, and will be
considered in case of a tie)
A
‘A’ is a violet variety of quartz often used in jewelry.
When translated from Greek, its name means “not
intoxicated” which can be attributed to the belief that
the stone protected the owner from drunkenness and
was therefore, often used for carving out wine goblets.
With ‘Deep Russian’ as its highest grade, ‘A’ also happens
to be the traditional birthstone for February.
B
What has been blanked out?
C
‘C’ was started in the late 1940’s by Evelyn Overton as a small store in
Detroit, Michigan, and now operates 179 full-service dining
restaurants: 165 under “C” brand, 13 under the Grand Lux Cafe brand
and one under the RockSugar Pan Asian Kitchen brand.
‘C’ has been criticized for their heavy promotion of large servings of
high calorie and high fat foods, and a corresponding lack of healthy
menu options. For these reasons, the chain was dubbed the "worst
family restaurant in America" for 2010 by the Men’s Health Magazine.
In popular culture, portrayal of the restaurant, however, is not visually
accurate to the real “C”. According to the company, it "does not have
any sort of arrangements with the show. ‘C’ is really pleased to be
featured in such a funny and wildly popular show".
D
Identify the male voice.
E*
 Arpad Emrick ‘E’ was a Hungarian-born
American Physics Professor.
 He was the Wisconsin State Champion at
something for a record 8 times.
 His most famous contribution is widely used till
date and it’s most famous depiction in movies was
in The Social Network, where Zuckerberg is seen
using his contribution to validate his Facemash
network.
 ‘E’?
F
 ‘F’ was created by Joanna Ferrone and Sue Rose. Rose
first developed the character in 1985 on a napkin in a
restaurant. They later stenciled ‘F’ on T-shirts with the
credo: “F’ is for ‘F’, ‘F’ is against no one". These T-shirts
became very popular in New York.
 ‘F’ was licensed to PepsiCo in around 1988, but the
character did not receive much attention or popularity
until the early 1990s on numerous products,
particularly stationery. Later, he was replaced with Cool
Spot as the brand mascot.
 Identify ‘F’. (Video on the next slide)
G
G1 and G2?
The ___G1___ is a cauldron. It’s designed to be one. The
venue itself is built like a Colosseum, and what adds to
the ominous setting are the distinctly coloured seats
around it. While they represent the colours of
Queensland cricket, the maroon, cyan and yellow are
arranged haphazardly so as to make it look like the
stadium is filled to the rafters at all times…. The
____G2____, as it’s referred to for the effect it has on
visiting teams, has always been about pace, bounce and
menace.
(The Indian Express; Date: December 16, 2014)

‘X’?
‘X’ is an informal value transfer system based on the
performance and honour of a huge network of money
brokers, primarily located in the Middle East, North
Africa, the Horn of Africa, and the Indian subcontinent,
operating outside of, or parallel to, traditional banking,
financial channels, and remittance systems. Believed to
have arisen in the financing of long-distance trade around
the emerging capital trade centers in the early medieval
period, ‘X’ influenced the development of the agency in
common law and in civil laws, such as the aval in French
law and the avallo in Italian law.
I*

Its predecessor was an e-mail and FTP- accessible database of adult
film actresses called the Abserver created by Dan Abend in 1993. It was
started by Peter Van Aarle, who had collected data on adult movies
since 1981, when he began keeping notes on index cards on adult
movies he had seen or were reviewed in Adam Film World. In 1993, he
began contributing to the Usenet newsgroup alt.sex.movies, where he
met Dan Abend. The two began work on a WWW-based database. The
site has been used as a reference by a variety of outlets that include
newspaper articles, books, and research studies. The academic and
non academic writing community has used the site's information to
varying degrees. As of 2011, the site was visited by 20.7 million
unique viewers who viewed nearly a quarter of a billion pages.

Americans Tyson Gay and Justin Gatlin.
 Identify ‘N’.

‘No, I was NOT pushing that time’
it spells S.T.E.V.E.N.
the table is rumbling

 Identify ‘S’. (Pictures in the next slide)
T
 Snippets from a character analysis on Shmoop ---
 “No, no one would ever call ‘T’ a Buddha figure, and not just because he
doesn't have the curvy figure to pull it off. All that violence and
bloodshed surely goes against the Buddha's teachings. Although,
despite the violence, he doesn't manage to pull off the literary Jesus
thing. By that, we mean that he has quite the savior complex. Check it
out:
 (1) Jesus wasn't much for worldly possessions. Neither is ‘T’: "I'm
breaking my attachment to physical power and possessions [...] because
only through destroying myself can I discover the greater power of my
spirit" (15.29).
 (2) Just as Jesus spread Christianity, ‘T’ spreads ____ ____ across the
country, leaving a mass of followers and wise apostles—like the
doorman and the mechanic—in his wake.
 (3) Then there's that whole crucifixion thing. ‘T’ is all about self-
sacrifice and the subsequent resurrection: "Getting fired [...] is the best
thing that could happen to any of us. That way, we'd quit treading water
and do something with our lives" (10.43).
 (4) And how about the fact that our narrator all but prays to ‘T’, saying at
one point, "May I never be complete. May I never be content. May I
never be perfect. Deliver me, ‘T’, from being perfect and complete.
 Identify ‘T’.
U
 The album's title supposedly comes from a Cambridge
slang word for sexual intercourse, commonly used by
one of band member’s friends and occasional roadie,
Iain "Imo" Moore who would joke 'Am I gunna' have
sex tonight?! However, some band members have since
stated that the word was "totally made up and means
nothing at all"
 In footage of the band rehearsing for a Royal Albert
Hall appearance in 1969, one of the band members can
be heard, off camera, quietly chanting the word ‘U’.
 Which double album is being spoken about?
V
 ‘V’ was the Prince of Wallachia was a member of
the House of Draculesti, a member of the House of
Basarab.
 He was posthumously dubbed ‘V’, the _____, with
his reputation for excessive cruelty spreading to
Germany and elsewhere in Europe in the 15th
Century.
 ‘V’s legacy was revived in 1897 by a certain Bram
Stoker.
 ‘V’? And FITB
W
 The Telegraph reporter, Simon Briggs on ‘W’,
“Every time an Englishman makes big runs in
Australia, we turn to Wisden’s record books and
find ‘W’ invariably leading the page. He was born
with the innate talent to score Test triple-
hundreds, bowl searing bouncers and play football
for Bristol Rovers.”
 Being a batsman of the highest caliber, ‘W’ was,
however a member of the Bradman era, hence
overshadowed by the master batsman.
 ‘W’?
X
What am I hinting at? FITB
According to a Reuters report in 2012, ________ refers
to the revolutionary idiom of “millet and rifle” from the
early days of the Chinese Communist Party, which
gained popularity in the Second Sino- Japanese War.
Y
 ‘Y’ is a resort city on the north coast of the Black
Sea in the Crimean Peninsula.
 Leo Tolstoy spent summers there and Anton
Chekhov in 1898 bought a house (the White
Dacha) here, where he lived till 1902; ‘Y’ is the
setting for Chekhov's short story, "The Lady with
the Dog", and such prominent plays as The Three
Sisters were written in ‘Y’.
 Name ‘Y’, which gained worldwide attention in the
mid-20th Century.
Z
 Abraham ‘Z’ was an American manufacturer of
women’s clothing, but was best known for
something he decided to do on November 22,
1963 in Dallas, Texas.
 26.6 seconds of Kodak Kodachrome II safety film
shot him to global fame with him being
eponymous to the best piece of motion evidence

  • 4. A ‘A’ is a violet variety of quartz often used in jewelry. When translated from Greek, its name means “not intoxicated” which can be attributed to the belief that the stone protected the owner from drunkenness and was therefore, often used for carving out wine goblets. With ‘Deep Russian’ as its highest grade, ‘A’ also happens to be the traditional birthstone for February.
  • 5. B What has been blanked out?
  • 6. C ‘C’ was started in the late 1940’s by Evelyn Overton as a small store in Detroit, Michigan, and now operates 179 full-service dining restaurants: 165 under “C” brand, 13 under the Grand Lux Cafe brand and one under the RockSugar Pan Asian Kitchen brand. ‘C’ has been criticized for their heavy promotion of large servings of high calorie and high fat foods, and a corresponding lack of healthy menu options. For these reasons, the chain was dubbed the "worst family restaurant in America" for 2010 by the Men’s Health Magazine. In popular culture, portrayal of the restaurant, however, is not visually accurate to the real “C”. According to the company, it "does not have any sort of arrangements with the show. ‘C’ is really pleased to be featured in such a funny and wildly popular show".

E*  Arpad Emrick ‘E’ was a Hungarian-born American Physics Professor.  He was the Wisconsin State Champion at something for a record 8 times.  His most famous contribution is widely used till date and it’s most famous depiction in movies was in The Social Network, where Zuckerberg is seen using his contribution to validate his Facemash network.  ‘E’?

These T-shirts became very popular in New York.  ‘F’ was licensed to PepsiCo in around 1988, but the character did not receive much attention or popularity until the early 1990s on numerous products, particularly stationery. Later, he was replaced with Cool Spot as the brand mascot.  Identify ‘F’. (Video on the next slide)
  • 10. G G1 and G2? The ___G1___ is a cauldron. It’s designed to be one. The venue itself is built like a Colosseum, and what adds to the ominous setting are the distinctly coloured seats around it. While they represent the colours of Queensland cricket, the maroon, cyan and yellow are arranged haphazardly so as to make it look like the stadium is filled to the rafters at all times…. The ____G2____, as it’s referred to for the effect it has on visiting teams, has always been about pace, bounce and menace. (The Indian Express; Date: December 16, 2014)

All that violence and bloodshed surely goes against the Buddha's teachings. Although, despite the violence, he doesn't manage to pull off the literary Jesus thing. By that, we mean that he has quite the savior complex. Check it out:  (1) Jesus wasn't much for worldly possessions. Neither is ‘T’: "I'm breaking my attachment to physical power and possessions [...] because only through destroying myself can I discover the greater power of my spirit" (15.29).  (2) Just as Jesus spread Christianity, ‘T’ spreads ____ ____ across the country, leaving a mass of followers and wise apostles—like the doorman and the mechanic—in his wake.  (3) Then there's that whole crucifixion thing. ‘T’ is all about self- sacrifice and the subsequent resurrection: "Getting fired [...] is the best thing that could happen to any of us. That way, we'd quit treading water and do something with our lives" (10.43).  (4) And how about the fact that our narrator all but prays to ‘T’, saying at one point, "May I never be complete. May I never be content. May I never be perfect. Deliver me, ‘T’, from being perfect and complete.  Identify ‘T’.
