These regulations thereforcanallowfor a sound technology foundation addressing future growth Taiwan has the opportunity to avoid industry mistakes and drive innovation through open standards Why is this is important to have open standards? As Nevada Gaming Commissioner Randolph Townsend stated a few weeks ago:“Its not about the green felt anymore, its not about dealing cards anymore, its not even about slot machines anymore – its all about technology” To interest the next generation of casino players, one has to be on the cutting edge of technology.LETSTALKABOUT TODAY’S BUSINESS REALITY IN THE GAMING INDUSTRY AND THE RELATIONSHIP WITH THEIR VENDORS

OPERATORS SHOULD OWN AND CONTROL THEIR OWN DATA! Today data is trickled down to other applications through a patchwork of interfaces under the control of the CMS providerWe are living in an information centric world and standards play a key role in interoperabilityIt is the integration of the variety of real-time data that creates an array of revenue, operational and customer focused application opportunitiesEXAMPLE: A large operator in Las Vegas successfully created a Rewards program but through significant investments and unnecessarily complicated technical integration challengesAnother example of why data is key:What happens to a guest during the card in-play session? Communication to the player during his play session allows you to extend his play by engaging himwith specific offers in real time.HOWEVER - Unless you have GSA standards this information is simply not available
BUT OPERATOR DON’T CONTROL THEIR OWN DATA!Moving away from vertical approach – i.e.: solution and applications controlled by one vendor (old IBM / WANG). These shrink wrapped products results in increased costs without necessarily the anticipated ROI.To a Horizontal product approach – i.e.: having the freedom to pick and choose the best solutions and applications Its all about the app’sIts all about the contentIts all about enhanced services and customer experienceIts all about the dataOpen standards open up the opportunity to use the best solution available
