Ducks come in three varieties - dabbling ducks, diving ducks, and perchers. Dabbling ducks feed by putting their heads underwater to reach plants, building nests near water. Diving ducks dive deep to catch fish and are strong swimmers. Perching ducks nest in trees and hold branches with long claws. All are graceful swimmers but waddle on land. They have layers of feathers and molt annually to stay warm and waterproof in water.
