through Illinois’ 150 year old rail system…
• 37,500 rail cars traverse the region on
2,800 miles of track.
• 1/3 of U.S. rail freight is shipped through
the Chicago region.

• It takes 36 hours to ship from Los Angeles
to Chicago, a distance of 2,000 miles.
• Yet it takes more than 36 hours to ship
through Chicago, where freight usually
travels no faster than 9 m.p.h.
