An Oculus Rift Could Set You Back $1,500 - Yahoo News
It's a good thing the Oculus Rift won't be available until the first quarter of 2016. You'll need the
time between now and then to set aside all the money for the virtual reality headset and the
computer it runs on.
Speaking at the Code Conference Wednesday, Oculus CEO Brandon Iribe said a Rift headset and a
companion PC will likely put a $1,500 dent in your bank account. "We are looking at an all-in price, if
you have to go out and actually need to buy a new computer and you're going to buy the Rift ... at
most you should be in that $1,500 range," Iribe said in a report by Code Conference sponsor Recode.

The hefty price tag shouldn't be that shocking, though. Earlier Performance management in May,
Oculus posted the hardware requirements for the Rift, which include Nvidia GTX 970 or AMD 290
graphics, an Intel Core i5-4590 processor and at least 8GB of RAM. The Oculus Rift specs rule out
current laptop models, and Oculus is focusing entirely on Windows, so Mac and Linux machines are
out of the running, too.
Don't be too put out if $1,500 is too rich for your blood, though. Iribe told Code Conference
attendees that he wants to see the cost of the Rift fall below $1,000 over time.
The Oculus Rift will reach consumers by the first quarter of 2016; Oculus will start taking pre-orders
later this year.
