2. DECIDING TO LISTEN YOU SHOULD CONCENTRATE ON THE SPEAKERS WORDS OR PRESENTATION. YOU WILL NOT KNOW ANYTHING IF YOU FOCUSE ON THE SPEAKERS APPEARANCE, AGE, POSITION OR STYLE. LISTEN WITHOUT BEING JUDGEMENTAL OR CRITICAL.

3. CREATE THE PROPER ATMOSPHERE TRY NOT TO GET DISTRACTED WITH THE OUTSIDE. BE SURE TO NEVER ANSWER PHONE CALLS AND FOCUS ON THE PERSON OR SPEAKER AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE.

4. FOCUSING ON THE SPEAKER ALWAYS BE SURE TO HAVE EYE CONTACT WITH THE SPEAKER. GIVE THE SPEAKER TIME TO SPEAK AND HAVE QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS. AT THE END OF THE PRESENTATION. TAKE BRIEF NOTES AND CONCENTRATE ON THE SITUATION.

5. SHOW THAT YOU ARE PAYING ATTENTION USE APPROPIATE NONVERBAL SIGNS TO SHOW THE PRESENTER THAT YOU ARE PAYING ATTENTION. ASK QUESTION WHEN NECESSARY AND ASK THE PRESENTER TO REPEAT SOME OF THE MESSAGE AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE.

6. MIRRORING Tina: Its hard to wake up early for school in the morning; especially trying to come on time for Richmond Hill; a school that a really hate Jessica: So you cant wake up early for school and try to get to Richmond Hill on time

7. MIRRORING Yanitza: I really hate this school Whitney: Umm you hate this school. A lot. I hear you.

8. PARAPHRASING Speaker: I want to go to the movies with my friends but I have no money. Listener: AH, so you are broke. You should consider asking your mother for money so you could go to the movies.

9. Paraphrasing Speaker: I really do not like my job. I don’t even get paid enough for things I do. I need a new job because I could hardly pay my bill and my ten kids to eat. They are so fat. They could eat me if I stand still long enough. You are very upset at the fact that your not able to pay your bill or feed you ten children because your boss doesn't pay you enough.
