Summary of Competition Rules
1. The Competition Period begins on November 30 2012 at 5:00 PM Eastern Standard Time
(“EST”) and ends March 15, 2013 at 5:00 PM EST.
2. The Competition is open to individuals and teams from the follow countries:
Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Dominica, Grenada, Jamaica, Montserrat, Saint Kitts
& Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent & the Grenadines, Trinidad & Tobago, Belize, Guyana,
Suriname.
3. Contestants may be individuals or teams with a business idea for a product or service, and
working prototype. Existing companies may participate but must have under $10000 USD of
booked revenue as of Jan 7 2013.
4. Contestants competing for prizes may be individuals or organizations (profit, non-profit,
academic) with fewer than 10 employees. Public sector agencies/organizations may not compete.
5. To enter you must submit via email an 11-page pdf document, following the format provided
at facebook.com/pitchITCaribbean by 5pm EST on Jan 7 2013.
6. Participation is Free.
7. Submissions will be judged on the following criteria:
(1) business feasibility, (2) novelty and innovation, (3) clarity of presentation, and (4) potential
development impact.
8. Up to 10 finalists will be announced on Feb 1 2013.
9. Finalists are required to submit a link to a video of their pitch presentation and a revised
version of an 11-page pdf document, following the format provided at facebook.com/
pitchITCaribbean by 5pm EST on Feb 22 2013.
10. There are two prize categories.
a. Grand Prize (selected by an expert jury).
b. People's Choice (selected by the public).
11. Winners will be announced on or about March 15, 2013.

the Competition, Contestants fully and unconditionally agree to be bound by these Official
Rules. All decisions will be final and binding.
Eligibility
The Competition is open to Contestants from Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados,
Dominica, Grenada, Jamaica, Montserrat, Saint Kitts & Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent & the
Grenadines, Trinidad & Tobago, Belize, Guyana, Suriname.
2. Contestants may be individuals or organizations (profit, non-profit organizations, academic).
Organizations must not have more than 10 employees. Contestants are responsible for
compliance with legal requirements of their country.
A. Individuals must be of age of majority in their country at the time of entry.
B. Individuals may form teams and submit entries on behalf of teams. At least one individual per
team must be of age of majority in their country at the time of entry.
C. Employees of the World Bank Group, the members of the Jury Panel or any company or
individual involved with the design, production execution or distribution of the Competition and
their immediate family members (spouse, parents and step-parents, siblings and step-siblings,
and children and step-children, aunt, uncle, niece and nephew) are not eligible to join the
Competition.
Competition Enrollment Period
The Competition Enrollment Period begins on Nov 30, 2012 at 5:00 PM Eastern Standard Time
(“EST”) and ends on Jan 7, 2013 at 5:00 PM EST (the “Competition Enrollment Period”). Only
Entries actually received during the Competition Enrollment Period will be accepted.
How to Enroll
Each Contestant is required to provide the following Submission:
1. An 11 page pitch deck in pdf format based on the pitch deck template found here:http://
www.slideshare.net/pitchITCaribbean/pitch-it-caribbean-pitch-deck-template..
This document must be emailed to the following email address: pitchitcaribbean@worldbank.org
before the enrollment deadline of Jan 7 2013, 5pm EST.
Rules/Principles
1. Submissions must be pdf documents and emailed to pitchitcaribbean@worldbank.org
2. Once a submission is submitted, the contestant cannot make any changes or alterations to the
submission until the judging is complete.
3. All submissions will be available for public use and evaluation by Jan 7, 2013 EST for judging
purposes.
4. Contestants may submit more than one Submission.
5. Each Submission must be in English.
3. 6. Submissions which adversely affect the reputation of the World Bank Group will not be
accepted.
7. Submissions must not: a) be illegal under applicable laws; b) depict hatred, defames, threatens
a specific community in the society or that can incite violence; c) contain vulgar language or
violence; or d) contain pornography, obscenity or sexual activity.
8. Submission must a) be original; b) be solely owned by Contestant(s) and no other party has
any rights or interest, whether known or unknown; and 3) not violate the Intellectual Property
or privacy rights of other parties. Intellectual property rights of submissions will be owned by
the Contestants. The World Bank disclaims any liability for infringements or other violations of
intellectual property rights based on claims of ownership by Contestant.
Judging Criteria, Screening and Judging Process, Jury Panel
A. Submissions will be judged on the following criteria (“Judging Criteria”):
(1) business feasibility, (2) novelty and innovation, (3) clarity of presentation, and (4) potential
development impact
B. Screening and Finalist Selection Process
1. Submissions will initially be screened by a Committee. The Committee will verify that
the Contestant meets the Eligibility criteria and its Submission(s) meet the Submission
Requirements. The Committee will be selected by the World Bank.
2. All Submissions that pass the screening will then be evaluated by the Committee
based on the Judging Criteria. Up to 10 finalists will be selected.
3. C. Finalist Jury Panel
A Finalist Jury Panel will be determined by the World Bank. The World Bank reserves the right
to substitute or modify the Finalist Jury Panel at any time for any reason. Up to 10 finalists
submissions will be judged by a Finalist Jury Panel based on the judging criteria to select the
submission to be awarded the Grand Prize. The dates for the judging are between Feb 22, 2013
and March 1, 2013.
DECISIONS OF THE COMMITTEE AND JURY PANEL ARE FINAL AND NOT SUBJECT
TO NEGOTIATIONS OR APPEAL.
4. Awards
A. Grand Prize
In the event of a tie, then the winner will be selected based on a vote by the Finalist Jury Panel.
B. People’s Choice Award
Public voting will take place between Mar 1, 2013 at 5:00PM EST and Mar 15, 2013 at 5:00
PM EST. Public voting by registered facebook users will determine the winner of the People’s
Choice Award. Each registered facebook user may only vote once during the voting period.
Use of an automated process or similar device to submit an electronic vote is strictly prohibited.
Any attempt to circumvent the one vote limit per Submission or to use an automated vote process
will subject all votes from the person to disqualification. If a Contestant receives multiple and/
or irregular votes from the same user or users, including but not limited to, votes generated by
a robotic, programmed, script, macro, other automated means or other source, the World Bank
reserves the right to disqualify the Contestant in their sole discretion. If the voting process for
the Popular Choice Award fails to operate properly or appears to be tampered with or tainted
with errors, fraud or unfair practices, the World Bank its sole discretion reserves the right to
use another means to determine the winner of the People’s Choice Award, i.e. random selection
or appointing a panel of judges. Contestants may not pay people or provide any other type of
consideration in exchange for votes. Any Contestant who violates the ban on paying or
providing consideration in exchange for votes will be disqualified. Public votes may be displayed
on the competition website, on a real-time basis, before being verified for integrity. These
unverified votes do not necessarily reflect accurately the winner of the People’s Choice Award.
The winner of the People’s Choice Award will be the entrant(s) who are contacted directly by
the World Bank after votes have been verified. The World Bank reserves the right to modify the
voting period at anytime for any reason.
Verification of Potential Winners
ALL POTENTIAL AWARD WINNERS ARE SUBJECT TO VERIFICATION BY The World
Bank WHOSE DECISIONS ARE FINAL AND BINDING IN ALL MATTERS RELATED TO
THE COMPETITION.
Award winners must continue to comply with all terms and conditions of these Official Rules
and winning is contingent upon fulfilling all requirements. The potential winners will be notified
by email, telephone, or mail on or about March 1, 2013. The potential winners will be required
to sign and return to the World Bank , within Ten (10) days of the date notice is sent, an affidavit
of eligibility, and liability/publicity release (except where prohibited) in order to claim his/
her prize if applicable. If a potential winner of any prize cannot be contacted, fails to sign and
return the affidavit of eligibility and liability/publicity release within the required time period
(if applicable), or if the prize or prize notification is returned as undeliverable, potential winner
forfeits prize. In the event that a potential winner of a Competition prize is disqualified for any
6. Publicity
Except where prohibited, participation in the Competition constitutes winners’ consent to the
World Bank’s use of winner’s name, likeness, photograph, voice, opinions and/or hometown and
state for promotional purposes in any media, worldwide, without payment or consideration.
Limitations of Liability
The World Bank is not responsible for: (1) any false, incorrect or inaccurate information,
whether caused by Contestants, printing errors or by any of the equipment or programming
associated with or utilized in the Competition; (2) technical failures of any kind, including,
but not limited to malfunctions, interruptions, or disconnections in phone lines or network
hardware or software; (3) unauthorized human intervention in any part of the entry process or
the Competition; (4) technical or human error which may occur in the administration of the
Competition or the processing of entries; or (5) any injury or damage to persons or property
which may be caused, directly or indirectly, in whole or in part, from Contestant’s participation
in the Competition or receipt or use or misuse of any prize. If for any reason an entrants’
Submission is confirmed to have been erroneously deleted, lost, or otherwise destroyed or
corrupted, entrants’ sole remedy is another provide another Submission.
No Recourse to Judicial Procedures
In the event that an entrant should disagree with any of these Competition Rules or any decision
made by the World Bank or the Judging Panels, Contestant will have the right to withdraw its
Submission. To the extent permitted by law, the rights to litigate, to seek injunctive relief or
to any other recourse to judicial procedure in case of disputes or claims resulting from or in
connection with this Competition are hereby excluded, and Contestant and Voters expressly
waive any and all such rights.
Preservation of Immunities
Nothing herein shall constitute or be considered to be a limitation upon or a waiver of the
privileges and immunities of the World Bank, or any other member of the World Bank Group,
which are specifically reserved.
Use of World Bank Name and Data
The use of the World Bank name, or any trademark, official mark, official emblem, or logo of
the World Bank, or any of its other means of promotion or publicity is strictly prohibited except
for attribution purposes only.The World Bank will prosecute, to the fullest extent of the law, any
other use of the World Bank name, or any trademark, official mark, official emblem, or logo of
the World Bank.
