4. Tungsten fiber volume fraction:31 % (1.38 diameter)
Sample length: 30 mm
Mold cavity ( 6mm diameter, 55 mm length ).
Glass-Alloy:
Why Tungsten? : It increases Toughness (Tungsten has highest Tensile
strength among pure metal)
Compressive Fracture stress of BMG Composite (1783 Mpa) found to
be slightly lesser than the Fracture stress of BMG (1904 Mpa).
Fracture Strain of BMG Composite (0.06) is 10 times of BMG (0.558).
Deformation occurs, as in glass by the propagation of localized shear
bands (at an angle of 45 to the compressive axis). But the interaction of
shear bands with the W wires results in the generation of multiple shear
bands in the Tungsten and substantial plastic deformation.
Greatly desired in the design of W- based armor piercing kinetic energy
penetrators
