The word desk comes from the Modern Latin desca, “table to write on”, from the mid 14th century. Medieval illustrations show the first pieces of furniture designed and constructed for reading and writing. Desks provide a practical and physiological purpose, but this is not (and should not be) where the creativity is encouraged.

Ice ice baby
All right stop
Ice ice baby
Collaborate and listen
All right stop
Collaborate and listen
Ice is back with my brand new invention
Something grabs a hold of me tightly
Then I flow that a harpoon daily and nightly
Will it ever stop?
Yo, I don't know
Turn off the lights and I'll glow
To the extreme I rock a mic like a vandal
Light up a stage and wax a chump like a candle
Dance
Bum rush the speaker that booms
I'm killin' your brain like a poisonous mushroom
Deadly, when I play a dope melody
Anything less that the best is a felony
Love it or leave it
You better gain way
You better hit bull's eye
The kid don't play
If there was a problem
Yo, I'll solve it
Check out the hook while my DJ revolves it

Keep looking, keep sharing, life is amazing. Mr Bingo (illustrator) recently commented in an interview that he’s not sure he ‘gets inspired’ because inspiration is all around him and that often being alone helps him find it - at a pub, on a train, wherever.\nInspiration is NOT AT YOUR FUCKING DESK!\n
The odd animated gif animation, just because. (not cats, hate cats)\n
Lots of intelligent, thought provoking quotes, written by someone more intelligent, that back up my argument, obviously.\n

Not literally, but whatever floats your boat\n\nI was going to call my talk this?\n\nDESKS ARE NOT WHERE CREATIVITY HAPPENS. \nIt’s not the meeting room. \nThe sofa (creating the illusion of not working).\n\n
Then I thought this would be better. Love how an asterix is somehow better than the letter.\n
Inspired by a recent blog post I wrote.\n
I asked a good friend of mine who is smarter and younger, so I used this. \n\nAPOLOGISE TO TWEETERS: To all the tweeters out there that are now having to annoyingly post new tweets introducing my talk I apologise.\n
So the grass is always greener, right? We hear this a lot. We each think it alot.\n

Not these guys\nNotice it’s not ICU nurses, bus drivers, or people doing three minimum wage jobs to support themselves and their family moaning about being busy, they are just tired. It’s usually people whose lamented busyness is purely self-imposed: work and obligations they’ve taken on voluntarily, classes and activities they’ve “encouraged” their kids to participate in.\n

The pressure of work. \nOthers work late, so you work late. It’s an ever descreasing circle. Longer hours, less pay, more stress, less exercise, poor diet leads to illness and eventually DEATH MOTHERFUCKER. \n\n

Another great quote from In Praise of Idleness by Bertrand Russell IN 1932!!!!\n
In his book Clotaire Rapaille discusses codes for culture. In France Food is seen as a Pleasure. You will never rush a French chef or meal. They have no concept for ‘fast food’. They’re attitude is ‘wait, when it is ready - it will be ready.’\n\nThis is a great philosophy for design, and one we should adopt.\n
It seems a common trait to align the metaphor of food with design. As Dave (who spoke earlier) did in his book ‘A User Guide to the Creative Mind’. \n\nThis is no accident. The French also believe in ‘eating well\n

Inspiration comes from many places. Inspiration is not ideas, it’s seeing, hearing, feeling - or in my case seeing the rude and naughty everywhere.\n\n'Meanwhile in Bergen a horny digger mounts a reluctant but passive truck.'\n\nDON’T Take what you do or yourself too serious\nDO look at everything.\n
Exchanges of information are through meetings, or conference calls, or via Skype. Why? WHY?\nBecause most creatives write "Scary, semi-literate, gibberish,"\nWriting is so important, but I am guilty of technology over-use too.\n\n
You know what this is?\nThis is our industry. \nThe tail is technology.\nWe’re now chasing an impossibility.\nLike striving for perfection: PERFECTION DOESN’T EXIST! \nWhy try and be happy when you can be normal. \nIt’s human engineering - we’re brilliant at setting ourselves up for to fail. Why? Fuck that.\n\n
I am not suggesting we’re doing it wrong. I wouldn’t be that lame.\n
I am telling you we’re doing it wrong.\n\n

Some of you might even be ‘happy’.\nAll of these ideas about working for yourself, from home, from a beach, #FuckDesks (whatever) is not always that easy or feasible for everyone. \nBut I will explain at least how I’m trying to do it.\n

You want the best resume? Make something. Make lots of things. Even things that don’t work. You go for a job as a graduate or a senior position it doesn’t matter how old or how much experience - it’s not what you SAY it is what you DO.\n
What is the future? \n\nNetworks. Collaborations. Small, mobile, remote teams working from beaches, beds, broom cupboards, wherever. \n
What is the future for me? \n\nLove & Support - a new entity based on those new ideals, new methods to approach this work. More time, Quality, not quantity. Agile. Flexible with love and support. The only one thing we all agree on is ‘deliver’.\n\nIf this isn’t possible then fine, but I’d rather try it than give up because I’ve been told it’s not possible.\n
