  Can an online, for-profit university
  become education's gold standard?
  The Minerva Project (CEO Ben Nelson)
  "the first elite American university launched in a century”

  ‘Not elite cost, but elite criteria for admission’

 •    academically-rigorous admissions criteria;
 •    online courses with limited class sizes;
 •    reinvented teaching responsibilities;
 •    global campuses;
 •    significantly lower tuition than traditional institutions of higher learning
                                        Will it work?
                    Maybe, but see it as a wakeup call for the rest of us.

 • SURFfederation:
         •       access external information and services with your institution credentials;
 • SURFconext:
         •       Portal to internal and external services and information;
         •       Form teams to collaborate;
         •       Access collaboration tools;

    • National infrastructure for Digital Online Testing:
             •    Sharing test applications;
             •    Sharing test item banks;
             •    Sharing author tools for testing;
    • Developing sourcing strategies:
             •    Conditions, agreements, privacy, etc.;
    • Collaborative Procurement of Services;
             •    Document sharing;
    • Open Access:
             •    Support for Open Access publications including data.

Remember, they choose with their feet and leave
 you with underused expensive facilities!


                            Don’t sell them ice when they have refrigerators.




                           Open the gates to integrate the outside world
                                  and allow freedom of choice.
