Common Place on Caregiving
Hello one and all! It is my unique honor and benefit to post my first short article on this blog. I am
delighted by the invite to post frequently. In subsequent reflections, I will certainly share stories and
understandings originated from my personal and professional experiences as a caregiver.
Essentially, I am by nature, nurture, and need a caretaker. And considering that you are reading this
blog site, I think I am safe to assume you have an interest in caregiving also. As a result, this is the
commonalities on which we stand. The basis for future discussions.
My passion for supplying beneficial info to caregivers and care receivers is rooted in the specifying
minutes of my life. When I was 15 years of ages, my life changed forever. My mommy was diagnosed
with incurable bust cancer. Over the next 8 years, I served as among her primary caregivers--
experiencing the blessings and the concerns of that daunting journey. A decade later, I shared in the
care of my father who suffered a stroke and eventually passed away of incurable cancer. I also
companioned my godmother who established vascular dementia in the last years of her life. Each
time I was called to care, I felt ill-prepared and ill-informed. Reactive instead of proactive.
Everything seemed beyond my control in spite of my best efforts and objectives. Sound familiar?
In the years following my personal experiences as a caregiver, my professional life unfolded in
amazing and unexpected methods. I never ever in my wildest dreams envisioned dealing with
households challenged by terminal illness. That was a story I did pass by to take another look at.
Nevertheless, as it winds up, that is precisely what I needed to do. It is exactly what I am called to
do. As you will discover in future postings, I worked in hospice and palliative look after years,
functioning as a chaplain and community educator for a hospice in Denver, Colorado. Today, I serve
as an instructional expert. I speak and cover the problems related to aging, ailment, and end-of-life
care. My initial experiences as a caretaker inform every program I provide and every short article I
compose. As a professional in the field, I am well versed in theories, designs, research study, and
fundamental teachings relevant to caregiving. However, knowing the experience of caregiving from
the within out is my incentive to serve caretakers and care receivers.
My objective in writing is simple yet significant. By sharing stories, I want to inform, enlighten, and
inspire you. I am a firm follower that knowledge is power. I will encourage you to be proactive
instead of reactive-- prepare to care. Collect the required information to make educated decisions
and establish a preliminary plan of care. I will enlighten you about the challenges as well as the
chances afforded by providing and getting care. And, I will certainly motivate you to engage the trip
of caregiving in life-giving, innovative ways.
I anticipate the ongoing discussion. If you have particular questions or issues related to your
caregiving experience, I would enjoy to hear from you. Until the next posting, I desire you and yours
many blessings.
