Note: It is recommended that you print these instructions before proceeding with the
installation of the Charter Security Suite™.
I. Minimum System Requirements:
Ensure your computer meets the following minimum system requirements:

II. Accessing My Account
1) Direct your web browser to http://charter.com/MyAccount.
2) Type your “My Account” Username, Password and Service Address Zip Code. Click Login.
a) If you are unable to remember your password, click the “Forgot Password” link. You will be
prompted to provide your username, secret question and answer. Upon successful completion,
you will be able to create a new password.
b) If you do not have a My Account login, click the “Create Account” button to create one.
c) If you are unable to remember your username, please contact us at 1-888-438-2427 or chat
with us online for assistance.

2. 3) Once logged in, click the Internet Services & Tools tab toward the top of your screen under the
My Account heading.
4) Click the Go Now link within the Charter Security Suite™ box.
III. Installing the Charter Security Suite™
Step 1: Activate a software license key
Click the Activate link on the Charter Security Suite™ page to create a license key for the Charter
Security Suite™. A confirmation email will be sent to your contact email address, including the new
key.
Please Note: If all of your license keys have been activated, Step 1 will not be available. Use one of
your existing active license keys (located on the right side of the screen) and proceed to Step 2.
Step 2: Download the Charter Security Suite™
Click the Download link to initiate the downloading process.
Step 3: Install the Package
A file download box will appear. Click Run to download and start the Charter Security Suite™
installer. After the download is complete, a security warning box may appear. Click Run.
Microsoft® Windows® Vista and 7 users may also need to click Allow on the User Account Control
window.
Follow the Installation Wizard
1) Select your installation language and click Next.
2) Read and understand the license agreement. Click Accept if you agree with the license
agreement.
3) Your current subscription key should be listed in the subscription box. If not, please type the key
in manually. Click Next.
4) The Charter Security Suite™ will now install on your computer. Please be patient as this will take
a few minutes to complete. Once the installation is complete you will be prompted to restart your
computer. Click Restart.
5) Once your computer has rebooted, the Charter Security Suite™ setup wizard will automatically
appear. Click Next to validate your subscription key.
6) Next, the Charter Security Suite™ will install updates to the program. Once completed, click close
and Congratulations! You have successfully installed the Charter Security Suite™.
Complete the above process for each computer you would like to install the Charter Security Suite™
on. You can install the Charter Security Suite™ on up to 3 computers.

3. IV. Parental Controls
Parental Controls are disabled by default. To enable parental controls:
1. Double click the Charter Security Suite™ padlock located within the system tray on the lower
right side of your computer screen (next to the clock).
2. Click the Settings button.
3. Click the Internet header on the left side of the security suite, and then click Parental
Control.
4. Click the empty box next to Turn on Parental Control to enable and to step through the
wizard.
5. Click Next on the Welcome to Parental Control browsing mode wizard screen.
6. Select your Parental Control Browsing Modes
a. If you select the Children option:
i. Your children can only visit websites that you specifically allow.
b. If you select the Teenagers option:
i. Your teenagers cannot access websites that contain certain restricted content,
such as drugs, or adult material. You can adjust what content your teens are
allowed to view.
c. If you select the Small Children and Teenager option:
i. You will set up a profile containing both „A‟ and „B‟ above.
After you have made your selection, click Next.
7. Set a daily time limit for browsing (optional). You can define different time limits for your
children and teenagers as well as separate time limits for weekdays and weekends. Once the
limit has been reached, your child or teenager cannot browse the Internet for the remainder of
the day. Once completed, click Next.
8. You may restrict Internet browsing to a certain part of the day (optional). You can select
different browsing hours for your children and teenagers as well as separate times for both
weekdays and weekends. Once completed, click Next.
9. For the Teenagers option only:
a. Select what type of web content you would like to block for your teenager. Once
completed, click Next.
10. For the Small Children and Teenager option only:
a. Select what type of web content you would like to block for your teenager. Once
completed, click Next.

4. b. Create a teenager password. This password will be provided to your teen for bypassing
the restrictions of the small children option. Confirm the password and click Next.
11. Create a parent password. Create a strong password that you will be able to remember and
do not share this password with your children or teenagers. Confirm the password and click
Next.
12. Create a password hint. This will help you remember your password should you forget. Once
completed, click Next.
Congratulations! Parental controls have been successfully enabled. Click Finish to exit the
wizard.
V. Removing the Charter Security Suite™
Windows® XP:
To remove the Charter Security Suite™:
1. Click Start >> Control Panel.
2. Click Add or Remove Programs.
3. Select the Charter Security Suite™ from the list of applications. Click Change/Remove.
4. Select Remove all and click Start to begin the removal process.
5. When the process has completed, save and close out all other programs and click Restart
Now. Your computer will reboot to complete the operation.
Windows® 7 and Vista:
To remove the Charter Security Suite™:
1. Click the Windows Button (Start) >> Control Panel.
2. Click Uninstall a program under the Programs Header.
3. Select the Charter Security Suite from the list of applications. Click Uninstall/Change.
4. Select Remove all and click Start to begin the removal process.
5. When the process has completed, save and close out all other programs and click Restart
Now. Your computer will reboot to complete the operation.
