Valery Gorkunov was a cyclist who was the idol of the author as a schoolgirl in the 1960s-1970s. Gorkunov was admitted to the Soviet national cycling team and had success winning races in France. He became a master of three sports - track, road, and cross-country cycling. Gorkunov inspired many young people to take up sports and had a long career in sports before retiring.
