2. Arctic Fox
Arctic fox have small ears to save body heat, they have thick fur and hairy
paws. They have thick soft tail (can be wrap around itself like a blanket).
Their fur will be gray- brown in warm weather and white in winter. They
hunts lemmings, voles, hares, owls, and eggs of bird

Their fur in summer are brown or gray but in winter their fur are white. They
have thick fur. When they are full grown they are 2 ft long and 12 pounds,
like other hare their enemy is wolves.
4. Harp Seal

When they are cubs there fur color is yellowish white or pure white, but when
it gets older it get older it turns grey. They hunts fish and crustaceans. Harp
Seal can be 6- 25 ft (1.9 meters) long. Their lifespan is about 30 yrs old.
The female are smaller than the male.
5. Arctic Wolf
(polar wolf, white wolf)
Arctic wolf are smaller than the grey wolf. Their enemy are polar bears, other
wolves, and humans. When they hunts they hunt in packs. Their prey are
caribou, musk ox and arctic hare. Their main weapons when hunting is their
teeth, they have 42 teeth. Their life span is 7-10 yrs in the wild.
6. Arctic Ermine
(stoat, short-tailed weasel)
In winter their fur are white, dense and silky, but quite closely lying and short.
In summer their fur are chocolate brown, rougher, shorter and sparse than in
winter. The male are twice as big as the female. They weigh 3 to 15 ounces.
They hunts rabbits, small insects and rodents. Their lifespan is 1-2 yrs but 10
yrs in captivity.
7. Polar Bear
Polar bears is the largest carnivore that live on land. They can smell
something 20 miles away from them. They mostly eat seals. Their only
predator is human.
8. Norway Lemming
Norway Lemming are 6 inches and weigh 2-4 ounces. They have long claws
and thick fluffy fur. They eat grass and small insects. They prefer to live near
water and they do not hibernate.
9. Musk Ox
Musk Ox are 3-5 ft tall and 500-900 lb. Their lifespan is 20 -25 years. They
are herbivore and they eat grass. They are related to sheep and goat not ox.
10. Pika
Pika
Pika are 20 cm long. They are related to rabbit and hare. They eat grass and
herb. Their lifespan are about 3 yrs. They live in rocky area in the mountain.
They collect and store food for winter.
11. Arctic Ground Squirrel
Arctic ground squirrel are 39 cm (15 in). They weigh 750 g (26 oz). Some
people call them tsik tsik because of the sound they make. Sometimes they
carries their food in their cheeks
12. Lynx
When lynx are full grown they are 2-3 ft long and weigh 15-30 pounds. They
are good swimmers and good climbers. Their fur is warm gray in winter but
can turn light brown in summer. They hunts at night. The word lynx came
from a Greek word meaning ‘to shine’.
13. Wolverine
They are 3-4 ft and are 24-40 lb(11-18 kg). Their lifespan is 5-7 years. They
are related to weasel not wolves. Their predators are humans, mountain
wolves and bears.
14. Tundra Swan
Tundra swan are also known as whistling swan. They are the smallest swan
type in North America. They are 115-150 cm in length. The female are mostly
smaller than the male. They have high pitched honking calls and sounds.
15. Snowy Owl
In summer snowy owl are brownish with dark spots and stripes but white in
winter. Snowy owl favorite food is lemmings. Their lifespan is 9.5 years in
the wild but 35 years in captivity.
16. Harlequin Duck
Harlequin duck are 17.6 and 25.6 oz. They eat insects and fishes. They are
prey to arctic fox and gray wolf. They build their nest close to water borne
area. Their lifespan is 9-12 years.
17. Rock Ptarmigan
They are known as the snowflake. Their feathers are pure white in winter but
mottled dark and white in summer. They are 34-36 cm long. Their lifespan is
about 3 years.
18. Snow Bunting
Sometimes known as the snowflake. They are 15-18 cm long and weigh 30-
46 g. They eat weed, grass seeds and insects.
