As you get started you will find most of these sites ask for an email account when you register. So it is best to have one email that can be used to organize all of your online activities. A good email to use is a Gmail account. Next set up a customized home page using services like iGoogle or MyYahoo.

Then next step before venturing out is to set up your online profile. Choose a photo, a username, and a brief summary about yourself.
Find out if anyone has already taken the username you have chosen.
One of the safest sites to start off on is a photo sharing site called Flickr. Here you can browse many photos uploaded by people from all over the world. Some photos have permissions set that allow anyone to download and use the photo for their own projects. Photos can be set to be publicly viewed or only viewed by your friends.

By grabbing a feed and adding it to your iGoogle or MyYahoo page, you can keep up to date on all your favorite blogs!
