2. Day 1 - Stage 5 (2
Hours)
My name is Fish and I have
finally made it from Japan
into this new country of
America. I am just an egg
and other people have told
me that I have no features
yet. I hope that I am able
get some characteristics
before my journey goes to
far down the road.
3. Day 2 - Stage 18 (26
Hours)
When I woke up from a long sleep, I
realized that I have grown an Oil
Globule. With all of the other
features that I need to grow, it
might take forever for me to be
fully grown and developed. My life is
going well, but my colleagues still do
not know me very, well and still
have not call me by the name of Fish
yet, just the Medaka egg.
Oil Globule - One small spheres of
oil in the yolk sac of the fish larvae.
4. Day 3 - Stage 23 (46
Hours)
My eyes are fully developed and I
can finally see what this new land
looks like. My colleagues are
awesome, even thought they have
gotten my stuck in transportation
a couple of times. They have called
my Fish for the first time today
and my heart is fully pumping and
my blood is easily seen as a pink
color. With my heart fully pumping,
I can actually do things and enjoy
my trip for once.
5. Day 4 - Stage 24 (52
Hours)
I have been moving around a
lot lately and I have had this
weird feeling all around my
body. I have never had this
feeling before, but I think it is
just that I am excited that I
am going to hatch. I hope it is
soon because it is very small in
here and I am claustrophobic.
6. Day 5 - Stage 30 (102
Hours)
Another exciting night has gone by
and I noticed that my yolk sac is
almost completely developed. I have
also noticed that I have developed
chorion and cytoplasm. I have to
remember to ask somebody what a
chorion is later. If this happens
more often, I will have great
excitement when I finally hatch.
Chorion - The outermost of the
extraembryonic membranes.
7. Day 6 - Stage 32 (128
Hours)
During the day, I noticed a
strange feel behind me. When
a checked it out, I noticed a
tail growing. My colleagues
and I were so happy that I
was this far and my hatching
was not that far away. Here I
come hatching, I will be ready
for anytime now.
8. Day 7 - Stage 33 (144
Hours)
Today I felt weird in my chest
area, so I went and got it
checked out. I found out that
my heart was beating at 128
Beats/Minute. I was told that
this was around the normal
standards for fishes my age.
From the beginning, I always
thought that I would be
behind everyone else in
development.
9. Day 8 - Stage 34 (168
Hours)
I could easily see what was my
newest feature. I can now clearly
see the filaments on my body. My
colleagues could always see them
from the time that I was born,
but today was different. The
clearness of filaments shows that
I am very close to hatching.
Filaments - a long slender cell or
series of attached cells.
10. Day 9 - Stage 35 (200
Hours)
I am so close to hatching, I
can not keep still. My head is
finally done developing and all
of my internal organs are up
and working. I am as ready to
hatch as I will ever be, so
hopefully I will come soon. I
just hope my colleagues are
able to see my hatch.
11. Day 10 - Stage 36 (264
Hours)
I have finally hatched and got out
of the that confined space. All of
my characteristics can easily be
seen and I can finally move more
than a couple inches everyday.
After this great experience, I am
going to go back to my home
country and ask other fishes to
come here and take part in this.
Sometimes, I just wish that my
experience would not have ended
this quickly.
12. Survival Needs
You need to change the water daily or it can build up causing
the Medaka fish to start dying.
The Medaka fish needs excellent water quality, such as spring
water or it can start to die.
Put many live plants in the tank for the fish as shade and as a
partial food source.
You never put only one small fish into a large tank because
the fish would not be able to filter the water if the tank is to
large.
The fish tank should be between the temperature of 70 - 77
degrees Fahrenheit. Not much more or less or your fish will not
survive much longer.
