Charles asks…

What should I bring for a 3-day travel to another country?
This is my first time travelling out of my country, and I’m travelling to Malaysia with a tour group
by bus. We are going to cover 3 different places within the 3 days so what should I bring along
for the tour?

I’ve decided that since I’ll be travelling from place to place and it is only a 3 days trip, I’m
going to bring a camping back which includes a small bag for convinence sake when my bag is
in the hotel..hmm..but I don’t know how many clothes to bring? Is it possible to wear the same
jeans twice? and oh.. do I need to bring water bottle? but if i bring, can it pass the custom? any
toliteries to bring (as in shampoo, shower foam)? Is it provided in the hotel? since I’m travelling
by bus, do I need to get a U-shape inflatable pillow to sleep during the long journey?
uhmm…and.. I’ll be going to genting too, heard that it will cold there, so should I bring a shaw
or a jacket? A shaw is much lighter and is a space-saver..so..but can a shaw bring warmth? do i
need to bring shoes/slippers since I’ll have one of them worn on my feet already? Is it wear
slippers in hotels, wear shoes when outside? Oh no.. I need so much help..I’m feel excited and
scared at the same time..I know that there are quite a handful of theft, pickpocket cases in
Malaysia,,,hope that everything will go well.. any things to take note of to keep my money and
passport save with me all the time?
need to bring umbrella? alarm clock? handphone?

                                                                                               1/8
First of all check the weather reports for where you’ll be going (www.weather.com or similar). If
it’s very humid then you’re probably not going to be comfortable wearing jeans more then one
day, especially if temperatures are high. I’d take 3 pairs of jeans or shorts, 3 t-shirts, 1 light
sweater and a light raincoat. As for shoes: if you’re going to be doing a lot of walking then
hiking boots or Teva style sandals would probably be best. Otherwise just wear what you
usually would. I’ve never taken slippers when travelling, never needed them either.

I wouldn’t bother bringing water, it’ll weigh down your luggage and you’re going to be able to
get water there.

Most hotels supply single-serving size shampoo and shower gel or soap (if not in the room then
you can ask at reception) but if you’d rather use your own then by all means bring them. If
you’re only going for 3 days then best to bring half-empty bottles: you won’t need any more,
you’re not carrying the full weight, and the last day you can chuck them leaving you more room
for souvenirs

I personally don’t like inflatable pillows
, you can just bring your sweater along in the bus, and use that for a pillow.

If you’re worried about pickpockets then you can get one of those strap-around packs that you
can keep your money and passport in. If you’re keeping valuables in a backpack then you can
wear it in front of you in busy areas to prevent pickpockets going through it without you noticing
it. And take a photocopy of important stuff (flight information, passport,…) and keep that in your
luggage. If your papers were to get stolen then that’ll save you some hassle.

If you’re taking a waterproof jacket then I wouldn’t bother bringing an umbrella. You can ask
the hotel reception to give you a wake-up call if there’s no alarm clock in the hotel room. If
you’re bringing a cell phone then that probably has an alarm clock function too. Check in
advance that your cell phone will work in malaysia: roaming has to be activated (check with your
provider) and your phone has to support 900 and 1800 MHz frequencies (check on the
manufacturers site).

Oh, and don’t forget to bring a camera, and to have a great time

                                                                                             2/8

Cuti-cuti Malaysia answers:

I can’t help you with what to do in KL. But you can take a railway train or bus. You can also
take a plane from KL international airport to Changi airport in Singapore.

Genting Highlands in Malaysia is cool. About 12-24 degrees celsius. So it’s not really cold. Just
a jacket will do.

Singapore is tropical all the way. But sometimes it rains, so be prepared.

For Singapore hotels, you can try Fullerton hotel, Swissotel, Pan Pacific, Carlton Hotel
(cheaper), Hotel 81 in Chnatown (cheaper). Google these hotels or ask airport staff to help you.

When you arrive in Singapore, you must visit –

1. Singapore Zoological Gardens. One of the best in the world.

2. Geylang. Red light district. You get to see another “side” of Singapore. Messy, interesting,
different from the “clean” Singapore

3. Sentosa Island, Universal Studios

                                                                                             3/8
4. Singapore Flyer – Biggest observation wheel in the world, bigger than London Eye

5. Orchard Road – Shopping district

6. Bugis street – Marketplace selling clothes, food

For your info, Singapore’s expensive. So be prepared to spend.

Good Hotel in Malaysia?
Hi,
We live in India and plan to visit Kuala Lumpur and Genting in the month of November for a
short vacation.

Can anyone suggest a good centrally located hotel in both these places. Something that’s cost
effective yet convenient. We have a 3 year old son with us.

Appreciate your help

If travelling to Kuala Lumpur, which hotel is the best place to stay
in?
I will be staying for 3 nights and plan to go to Genting, Sunway Lagoon Theme Park and KLCC.
Also, will the hotel give free shuttle service to these destinations or should I avail of land tour
packages instead?
budget of MYR400 for 3 nights
As long as the place is great, near my destinations and if possible, offers free shuttle service, I
can stretch my budget to MYR500. If you know of good hotel packages, I would greatly
appreciate it too. Thanks.
Sorry, typo error. That was supposed to be RM 450 per night, not 3 nights.
@Melaka Lotus: Thanks! Too bad our arrival is time is at midnight, that already counts as 1
night right? Since check-in time is usually at 3pm. Are stores in Petaling Street and Golden
Triangle open until midnight? We are planning to go to Genting Highlands from 9AM-4PM on a
Friday, Sunway Theme Park on a Saturday and the City Tour on a Sunday. I scheduled it on a
Sunday because we have to check out at 3PM and head to the airport at 9PM. And if I schedule
Genting & Sunway on the last day, we would have to check out before spending the day and

                                                                                             5/8
might get too exhausted before the flight. I am worried that some establishments may be closed
on Sunday though.

Cuti-cuti Malaysia answers:

Hi Ella,
The 3 destinations are apart from each other. KLCC is in the Kuala Lumpur City centre and you
should put up one night to explore the areas around it. There is a Hop On Hop Off bus to take
you around the tourist sites. There are hotels for reasonable rates around RM80-100 with basic
facilities.

I believe only the 4-5star hotels provide free shuttle. But services vary so you can always check
them out.
Then you can take a coach/bus to Gentings (ask the hotel reception how to get the transport to
Gentings) from whichever hotel you stay. Best to call up Gentings to book if you plan to stay a
night. They are always fully booked or just take a day trip and start early.

Most people do stay a night to enjoy the cool air, entertainment, casino, and other attractions like
jungle treks etc.

Sunway Lagoon is another theme park attraction and you can also stay at the hotel there or
some other nearby, as Sunway has 4-5 star rated hotels and outside your budget.

You can do this upon returning from Gentings or before going up to Gentings. Some hotels do
packages, and vary from hotel to hotel so you have to check it out.

Cuti-cuti Malaysia answers:

Hi, a lot of places you want to visit. Since you will be in Jalan Raja Laut, some of the place can
be reached either by walking or monorail.

First of all, you must decide which places you really want to see. You can also rgoup this
shopping center together since they are just walking distance from each other: Berjaya Time
Square, Low Yat Plaza, Sungai Wang Plaza and Lot 10.

Then Central Market, and Petaling Street can be grouped together. From Petaling Street, you
can walk to Masjik Jamek Station wherein it is a walking distance to Little India.

Zoo Negara is a bit far from Jalan Raja Laut but not that far. You can take the Putra LRT and go
down to Wangsa Maju Station, from there you can take the taxi, it won’t be that far.

FRIM and Templar Park is a bit farther. It is better you go with someone.

Ask help from your hotel when you arrive. Most Malaysians are helpful so they will try to find out

                                                                                              7/8
for you how to get to most places.

There’s not much thing in Sogo but near Quality Hotel so go ahead and visit it. Go to the site
below and find out more where to go in KL. Enjoy your stay.

  • 5. At Genting Highlands there is many affordable Hotels for you and your family http://www.genting.com.my/en/accommodation/room_rates/index.htm while in KL, i recommend this hotel for you.. Http://www.tunehotels.com/ good luck then.. Donna asks… If travelling to Kuala Lumpur, which hotel is the best place to stay in? I will be staying for 3 nights and plan to go to Genting, Sunway Lagoon Theme Park and KLCC. Also, will the hotel give free shuttle service to these destinations or should I avail of land tour packages instead? budget of MYR400 for 3 nights As long as the place is great, near my destinations and if possible, offers free shuttle service, I can stretch my budget to MYR500. If you know of good hotel packages, I would greatly appreciate it too. Thanks. Sorry, typo error. That was supposed to be RM 450 per night, not 3 nights. @Melaka Lotus: Thanks! Too bad our arrival is time is at midnight, that already counts as 1 night right? Since check-in time is usually at 3pm. Are stores in Petaling Street and Golden Triangle open until midnight? We are planning to go to Genting Highlands from 9AM-4PM on a Friday, Sunway Theme Park on a Saturday and the City Tour on a Sunday. I scheduled it on a Sunday because we have to check out at 3PM and head to the airport at 9PM. And if I schedule Genting & Sunway on the last day, we would have to check out before spending the day and 5/8
  • 6. might get too exhausted before the flight. I am worried that some establishments may be closed on Sunday though. Cuti-cuti Malaysia answers: Hi Ella, The 3 destinations are apart from each other. KLCC is in the Kuala Lumpur City centre and you should put up one night to explore the areas around it. There is a Hop On Hop Off bus to take you around the tourist sites. There are hotels for reasonable rates around RM80-100 with basic facilities. I believe only the 4-5star hotels provide free shuttle. But services vary so you can always check them out. Then you can take a coach/bus to Gentings (ask the hotel reception how to get the transport to Gentings) from whichever hotel you stay. Best to call up Gentings to book if you plan to stay a night. They are always fully booked or just take a day trip and start early. Most people do stay a night to enjoy the cool air, entertainment, casino, and other attractions like jungle treks etc. Sunway Lagoon is another theme park attraction and you can also stay at the hotel there or some other nearby, as Sunway has 4-5 star rated hotels and outside your budget. You can do this upon returning from Gentings or before going up to Gentings. Some hotels do packages, and vary from hotel to hotel so you have to check it out. Mark asks… 6/8

(Is it possible to see all ?) Could any one please help me and define near places and categorized them for visit some places with each other? (If possible with specify Railway station) Yours sincere Cuti-cuti Malaysia answers: Hi, a lot of places you want to visit. Since you will be in Jalan Raja Laut, some of the place can be reached either by walking or monorail. First of all, you must decide which places you really want to see. You can also rgoup this shopping center together since they are just walking distance from each other: Berjaya Time Square, Low Yat Plaza, Sungai Wang Plaza and Lot 10. Then Central Market, and Petaling Street can be grouped together. From Petaling Street, you can walk to Masjik Jamek Station wherein it is a walking distance to Little India. Zoo Negara is a bit far from Jalan Raja Laut but not that far. You can take the Putra LRT and go down to Wangsa Maju Station, from there you can take the taxi, it won’t be that far. FRIM and Templar Park is a bit farther. It is better you go with someone. Ask help from your hotel when you arrive. Most Malaysians are helpful so they will try to find out 7/8
