3. English Level Of Housekeeping Staff Of Four Star Hotels In Kuala
Lumpur?
Hi!! Anyone have any bad experiences with communicating to housekeeping staff around
hotels in KL?? Hotels should be four star. Thanks!

Hi there! I am a hotelier..and frankly speaking and honestly i would say..the english speaking
level in four stars hotel industry and that might also include some five stars hotels too are
somehow below than average or i would say that they are somehow sucks at it…Most of them
understand averagely in normal Malaysian english..but when it comes to deep english accents
like the British, American or Australian..they will make those ‘huh’ look at you and straight
away will call upon their seniors to help them out..
Most of the housekeeping stuff ( dont include the Butlers ) in four stars hotels are elderly women
aged around 35-40 plus with average qualification..so some of the hotels hired them for just the
sake of cleaning and making up the rooms..they are very less to be encountered with guests
and thus communication with the guests are very less likely.
By far, i havent experience any of that major bad experience with them coz most of the time i
will speak in Bahasa with them and so they know exactly what i need..but i did sometimes called
the housekeeping department of any hotels as an anynomous person and made many weird
inquiries from them..just to see whether these hotels hired a good trained staff and can handle
problems instantly..
So overall, i would say they need more exposure in communicating in English with guests and
among themselves..this is to maintain the hotel level of standard is met.
