Pregnancy Advisor’s answers:
Hi– I know the progesterone surges right after you ovulate and it stays up til it drops and then
your period arrives.
I actually ttc’d for 3 yrs and I never did get all the hormone codes right–so I can’t recall LH off
the top of my head.
One program that I really liked for info and has a free month is fertilityfriend.com and it helps
with all those ideas.
Iphone also has a few helpful apps for ovulation

2. Also consider a site that I really like and is completely free
twoweekwait.com
Full of other ttc’ers and everyone is quite helpful–and most know their lhs from their hs–and can
help you out
Sharon asks…
If your LH surge drops after ovulation does that mean your not
pregnaant?
Pregnancy Advisor’s answers:
The LH surge is connected to ovulation, not pregnancy. Though I have heard that the hormones
may cross react…that a pregnancy woman may get a positive on an HPT. I haven’t had any
personal experience though.
The LH surge also does NOT guarantee you have ovulated. OPKs can detect an LH surge, but
they do not confirm ovulation. YOu can have one or even many LH surges before you finally
ovulate, especially if you have long and/or irregular cycles.
I’d highly recommend charting your fertility signs, if you aren’t already doing so. Charting your

to problems w/ CF. Charting your basal temperature can confirm ovulation and detect low
progesterone or short luteal phase problems.

Is it possible to detect positive LH surge use urine after egg
released?
i had long time postive LH surge (5 days)using ovulation predictor kits. How it is possible to get
positive LH surge after ovary released egg at the time of ovulation process?i heard
24-36hours is a prior time of ovulation, but i find 5days surge. Is LH surge possible after
ovulation?
Pregnancy Advisor’s answers:
An ovulation predictor kit does *not* detect an LH surge–only a high level of LH. There are a
number of possible explanations of what happened. The most likely is that the test was wrong.
(This is actually fairly common.)
What precisely did you see? Did you get a positive test for LH *every* day for 5 days? Or was it
high one day and you tested 5 days later? If the second, then you may have had an LH surge
but *not* ovulated. Stress can sometimes do that. Then your body had a second LH surge
which probably did cause ovulation (but it could have also been delayed for some reason). This,
too, is not unheard of. (This is possible even if you did have 5 straight days of high LH, but less
likely.)
If you are over 40, you may have high enough levels of LH to get a positive even without an LH
surge.
If you have PCOS, you may have levels of LH high enough to get a positive on the test, as well.
Pregnancy can also cause an ovulation predictor kit to read positive.
If you want to have the best chance of determining when you are ovulating, you need to chart

is much more accurate than using ovulation predictor kits.
Lizzie asks…
How long is the ovulation window after the LH surge is detected?
I detected it at 2:00 this afternoon and my honey is working long hours tonight. Will tomorrow
morning be too late for us?
Pregnancy Advisor’s answers:
Ovulation usually happens roughly 12-24 hours after the LH surge, but you don’t know when
your LH surge started. It might be too late, it might not be. Your chances of conception are best
if you have sex on the day of your LH+ and the day after, but sometimes life gets in the way.
Babydance tomorrow and hope for the best. Good luck!

6. Jenny asks…
Does LH decrease after ovulation even if you conceive?
I know LH decreases after the LH surge that happens right before ovulation, but does it still
decrease if you conceive?
Pregnancy Advisor’s answers:
Yes, conception has no effect on LH levels.
I think you may be confused with the possibility of detecting pregnancy using ovulation tests.
That can work, but not because pregnancy causes increased LH levels. It works because LH
and hCG are so similar in structure that hCG can sometimes trigger an ovulation test. It does
not by the way work the other way around.
