Organic Official
Variety Trials
The organic official variety trials
(OVT) began with wheat in 2010
in order to identify varieties that
perform well under organic
production conditions in North
Carolina. These 16 varieties were
tested in both the wheat OVT and
in the ryegrass suppression OVT.
Featherstone VA 258 surpasses
the other varieties, ranking highest
in both yield and ryegrass
suppression.
BOPS Coalition
Breeding for Organic Production
Systems (BOPS) is a joint project
by North Carolina State University
and in the Rural Advancement
Foundation International in the
spring of 2009. The project
develops field crop varieties
specifically selected for organic
production in the Southeast.
