You need Vineyard's 'Spirit Burn,' and here's why
On Wednesday (Oct. 29), VineyaTraining Postsrd Records UK released “Spirit Burn (Live from
London).” “Spirit Burn” features 13 new songs and new versions of “Show Your Power” and
“O, My Soul.” The two-disc album was recorded at Riverside Vineyard Church in London in
June and was birthed from a desire to see God’s Spirit move in communities around the world.
“Spirit Burn” is an amazing album, There are so many reasons to get this album. Here are five
of them:
1. It’s Live
Stop wishing you could go to a concert with some of the best artists on the planet because if
you buy this album, you can do that anytime you want to. This album brought together the
cream of the crop--Vineyard’s top worship leaders and musicians to create a fresh sounding
album that will appeal to just about everyone.
2. The Production
Most people I know pass on live albums because they don’t sound as good as studio
recordings. The production on this album is so good that it doesn’t even sound like a live
recording. I don’t know how Jimmy Cooke and Casey Corum did it, but kudos to them.
3. It’s musically diverse
If you are looking for a worship album that is “stuck” in a particular genre, this is not it. It’s good
driving music; it’s good mood music; it’s music for meditating on the Scriptures; you could even
put it on repeat and let it be background music. It’s good for listening to anytime, really. “Spirit
Burn” is like a compilation album that’s not really a compilation album. It features a variety of
musical styles—from songs on this album that sound like something Mumford and Son would be
proud of (“The Light” and “Spirit Burn”) to songs that sound like Matt Redman and Delirious
wrote them (“Holy One” and “Show Your Power”).
4. Theology
Too many worship albums stick to the basics. “Spirit Burn” includes the basics, but also
manages to go beyond simple platitudes and include some deep theological ideas. My favorite
example is on “Endless Grace,” which spells out a concept that is hard for a lot of people to
grasp: God’s grace--the fact that our salvation came at the cost of the God of the universe
lowering Himself to help his enemies.
5. It Grows on You
The first time I listened to this album, I thought it was good. Then, I put it on repeat for a while to
1 / 2

see if I would start hating it. I don’t. In fact, I’ve listened to it multiple times over the last couple
of weeks, and I’m still not tired of it. Each time I listen, there is a new reason why I like it.
“Spirit Burn” is a real worship album. As such, it does what it was meant to do. Via tracks such
as tracks such as “Your Love Takes Hold,”” Show Your Power,” “The Light” and “Show your
Power,” it effectively ushers you into God’s presence, and while you are there, you can’t help
but be transformed.
