Are You Letting Others Put Hashtags On You?
So are you letting others put hashtags on you? Isn’t that an interesting
question? In case you are unaware of what hashtags are, let’s take a
look at what Wikipedia says about them:
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia:
A hashtag is a type of label or metadata tag used on social
network and microblogging services which makes it easier for
users to find messages with a specific theme or content. Users
create and use hashtags by placing the hash character (or
number sign) # in front of a word or unspaced phrase, either in
the main text of a message or at the end. Searching for that
hashtag will then present each message that has been tagged with it.
So a hashtag is simply a label that many people use on social media and other avenues to let others find their
content faster. I think in today’s society we allow others to put hashtags on us unnecessarily. Honestly this process
hasn’t changed since the beginning of time, we just call it something different. Remember that a hashtag is simply
just a label.
So what is the point in all of this? Do you ever find yourself in a situation where you feel that someone has called you
or labeled you something that you are not? Ever had anyone call you overweight, skinny, mean, unattractive, loud,
obnoxious, annoying, unsuccessful, etc.? How does this make you feel inside? Does it make you feel defeated or
worse yet, useless?
Have you ever put any of these labels on yourself? I think that we all do this from time to time and this is even more
dangerous than someone else doing it. When we do it our subconscious mind believes it more than when others do
it. It is highly imperative that we feed our subconscious minds good and positive thoughts.
When you start letting others put a hashtag on you remember what the Bible says in Genesis 1:27:
So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female
created he them.
You were created in the image of the almighty God and I can guarantee you that he didn’t create any junk.
Let’s take a look at what Psalms 139:14 says about you:
I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that
2. my soul knoweth right well.
You see here that you are wonderfully made. You are a conqueror, a winner, a person of great value, a joy, etc.
So you’ve made some mistakes and you feel like these hashtags fit. We have all made mistakes and we will all
continue to make mistakes, but that doesn’t mean that these cruel hashtags are necessary. Remember that you are
loved, as it says in John 3:16:
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in
him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
God, who created you in His image, sent His only Son to die so that you may have everlasting life. If you take a close
look at this verse, it says for God “so” loved the world. Have you ever told your kids that you loved them “so” much?
That means an extraordinary love.
Let’s take another look at this love in John 15:13:
Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
Not only did God love this world so much He sent His only son, but Jesus paid the ultimate price by dying on the
cross for you and me. This is the truest love of all and He loves each and every one of His children.
He doesn’t want you labeling yourself negative things for you were created in His image. Remember this the next
time someone decides that they want to put a hashtag on you or you are doing it to yourself.
Use these hashtags instead:
#conqueror
#childofGod
#wonderfullymade
#survivor
#champion
#loved
#success
The list could go on and on. I encourage you to compile a list for yourself so that when the enemy starts to attack you
have some ammunition to fight back with in the name of Jesus.
I pray that this helps you in some way to stop letting others put hashtags on you, unless they are positive and
uplifting.
Blessings!
