2. 8.4 Negative and Zero Exponents pg. 390 to 395
So yesterday you learned:
When dividing like bases you subtract exponents and divide the
coeffiecients.
ALSO when a fraction is raised to a power--the exponent outside the ( )
gets disributed to the top and bottom the the fraction inside!
3. Fifth rule of exponents:
Negative exponents:
DON'T forget all the past rules still apply-
ONLT NOW- what happens if your exponent in negative?
First try to simplify. If you STILL have a negative exponent--
You have to quot;flipquot; the base and exponents position.
If on top--it moves to bottom and exponent turns positive
If on bottom--it moves to top ans exponent turns positive.
10. pg. 392
In a nutshell:
ALSO:
-Even exponents yield positive answers
-Odd exponents yield negative exponents
-Negative exponents--change position of the base and change exponent
to positive
-Zero exponent = 1 EVERY TIME
