(Introduction):
La Rochelle, France the 30th November of the year 1825.
He went to a good school and as he showed a great artistic talent,
his father sent him to the School of Fine art in Bordeaux where he
won his first price.
He married Marie-Nelly Monchablon and they had five children.
826 paintings.
He finally died in La Rochelle from a heart disease.
3. Fame and fall:
William gained wide fame in Belgium, Holland, Spain, and in the
United States.
American millionaires considered him the most important French
artist at the time.
In 1900, Degas and Monet named him as most likely to be
remembered as the greatest 19th-century French painter by the year
2000.
Unfortunately in 1920 he began to have a bad reputation, this is why
for decades following, his name wasn’t even mentioned.
4. “L'Amour et Psyché, enfants”
L'Amour et Psyché, enfants is one of William’s most famous
paintings.
It was painted in the year 1890.
Exposed in a private gallery.
It has been painted in oil.
It represents Cupid and Psyche when they were little.
This painting is commonly known as “The First Kiss” because in a
famous web page about paintings it said so.
