This document discusses barriers to communication. [1] It identifies 5 types of barriers: semantic, organizational, interpersonal, psychological, and physical. [2] Each barrier is then defined and examples of causes are provided. [3] The document concludes by suggesting methods to overcome each of the 5 barriers, such as using simple language to address semantic barriers and establishing feedback systems to address organizational barriers.

6. Semantic Barriers
If the receiver is not able to comprehend the
massage that the sender intends to convey, it
results into language barrier in the process of
communication .
Cause:
Use of unsuitable words .
Improper sentence formation.
7. Organizational Barriers
Every organization has its own structure and
communication techniques.
Cause:
Processing of information from several
people.
Organizational rules.
8. INTER PERSONAL BARRIERS
The barriers occurs due to individual as wall as
cultural differences.
Cause:
Attitude of superiors.
Emotional feelings.
9. Psychological Barrier
When a person is not able to communicate
effectively because of mental disturbances.
Cause:
Background.
Fixed ideas .
10. Physical Barriers
The distracting element found in the surrounding
environment that does not allow proper
communication.
Cause:
Noise .
Poor lighting.
12. PHYSICAL BARRIERS
• Make suitable seating arrangement.
• Ensure audibility and visibility.
• Minimise visual and aural distractions.
• provide environmental comforts.

• Use simple and precise language.
• Use suitable language.
• Employ different method of communication.
• Avoid ambiguous and abstract words.
15. ORGANISATIONAL BARRIERS
• Make it a two way process.
• Establish feedback system.
• Avoid unnecessary information.
• Purposeful communication.
