Abstract

You're Clark Kent, and you've just entered a Domino infrastructure
that has been beaten and battered, and has been taken over by
the forces of evil. Time to put on your tights and get to work...

This session takes our valiant heroes, Domino Administrators, into all
the things they can do to change their environments from a
wasteland to a 'Fortress of Awesomeness'! You will fly with
lightening speed thru steps to take when you take over an existing
infrastructure and 'traps' you will need to avoid. You will also
receive the best tips, tricks and tools from the greatest
superheroes in the Yellowverse.

So charge your power ring, get your superhero outfit to the
drycleaners and take your administration to the next level! Fight
the forces of darkness, and don't miss this session!

3. Go to the ServerAnalysis tab, Analyze tool and select Cluster
4. Select the options you want, select if you would like to overwrite or append, then click

Aquatic: A hero whose abilities either come from living underwater (like Aquaman, Namor and Aspen Matthews from
Fathom) or from being trained to adapt to underwater conditions (like the Sea Devils).

Uninstall or upgrade leave you under water? Control it
with the Lotus Notes Install Cleanup Executable Tool
(aka NICE)

Brick/Tank: A character with a superhuman degree of strength and endurance and, for males, usually an oversized
muscular body; e.g., The Hulk, The Thing, Colossus, the Master Chief, and Lobo. Almost every superhero team
has one member of this variety, a point X-Factor's Guido Carosella noted when he took the codename "Strong
Guy" at a reporter's suggestion that this was his role in the team.

Server_Restricted=1 (Prevents non-administrators from opening databases on the server, but does not
prevent replication - Rebooting server sets it back to unrestricted)
Server_Restricted=2 (Prevents non-administrators from opening databases on the server, but does not
prevent replication - Rebooting server keeps it restricted)
Server_Restricted=3 (Like “1”, but also blocks all replication that is not coming from an ID for an
administrator)
Server_Restricted=4 (Like “2”, but also blocks all replication that is not coming from an ID for an
administrator)



Elementalist: A hero who controls some natural element or part of the natural world; e.g., Storm (weather), Magneto
(magnetism), Swamp Thing (vegetation), the Human Torch (fire), Iceman (ice), Aang (air, water, earth, and fire),
Static (electricity), and Gaara (Wind and Earth).

Control the time it takes to start Notes and Domino
Designer
1. Shut down Notes and Domino Designer (reboot OS just to be safe)
2. Find the jvm.properties file in the <Notes Program Directory>frameworkrcpdeploy directory
3. Open with your favorite text editor
4. Change the following values if you have 2GB or more memory:
vmarg.Xmx=-Xmx256m Start at 512m, but don’t go over 1024m
vmarg.Xms=-Xms48m Start at 256m
5. Save and start client.

The key is to set in multiples of 16 (eg. 128m, 512m, 768m, etc.)

Energizer: A hero who emits great amount of energy in combat (ki, chakra, karma, etc.), neither by supernatural
powers (like Cole McGrath) or thought for combat (like Son Goku and Naruto)

Make sure you have AdminP set up correctly… including the ACL
Make sure ADMIN4.NSF is replicating frequently…
same schedule as NAMES.NSF perhaps
Validate the Server document settings – make sure they’re
consistent…


Feral: A hero whose abilities come from a more beastial nature. This beastial nature could manefest itself either
partially (like Wolverine), fully (like Beast) or through therianthropic dual natures (such as the supernatural
werewolf Jack Russell, the mutant werewolf Wolfsbane or the wolf shapeshifter Jacob Black (whose beastial
nature could also pass as partial).

Turn your NOTES.INI file into a BEAST!

Healer: A hero who is able to quickly recover from serious injury; e.g., The Crow, Wolverine, the Hulk, and Deadpool.
This may also be a hero whose primary ability is to heal others; e.g., Elixir.

Mage: A hero who is trained in the use of magic; e.g., Doctor Fate, Doctor Strange, Zatanna.

Is it Magic? No, it’s just the ACL…
• Check the system databases (especially NAMES.NSF) for individual names
• Individual names BAD…
• Names of Developers… REALLY BAD!
• Life becomes easier if you use groups… but make sure you can control them!
• Limit use of Full Access Administration
• Full Access Administration should only be used rarely, when a need to
override ACL or ReaderNames is required.
• Grant this only to specific ID files. Make the administrator switch to this ID
file when needed.
• Create an "Event" notification to notify management any time this level of
access is granted.


Marksman: A hero who uses projectile weapons, typically guns, bows and arrows or throwing blades; e.g., Green
Arrow, Hawkeye and The Punisher.

Throw your data with these NOTES.INI settings!

Specifies the directory where temporary files will be created for optimized view rebuilds

Specifies the temporary directory used (otherwise it’s the OS temp directory)

Specifies the directory to store the fulltext index of databases to a different location including a
different drive. This allows to make use of more I/O channels and avoid fragmentation on the data
drives.

Martial Artist: A hero whose physical abilities are mostly human rather than superhuman but whose hand-to-hand
combat skills are phenomenal. Some of these characters are actually superhuman (Iron Fist, and Daredevil),
while others are human beings who are extremely skilled and athletic (Batman and related characters, Captain
America, every superhero of Watchmen save for Doctor Manhattan, Rock Lee, and Shang Chi).

Look for trends and attack issues before your users tell you it’s a problem
Tip: Create one for servers and one for clients

Good news: Server will not start if value is reached or exceeded
Bad news: No log message about it!
