The document discusses how God created everything for his glory and that the ultimate goal of the universe is to show God's glory. It provides definitions of God's glory and discusses how God's glory is revealed in creation, Jesus, and the Bible. It argues that we should live to bring God glory by worshipping him, becoming like Christ, serving others, telling others about God, and fulfilling God's purposes for our lives. The key point is that everything exists to glorify God and we should seek to live lives that honor him.
2. It’s all for Him!
The ultimate goal of the universe is to show
the glory of God. It is the reason for
everything that exists, including you.
God made it all for His glory. Without God’s
glory, there would be nothing.
3. What is God’s glory?
“It is who God is. It is the essence of His
nature, the weight of His importance, the
radiance of His splendor, the
demonstration of His power, and the
atmosphere of His presence. God’s glory
is the expression of his goodness and all
his other intrinsic, eternal qualities.”
Rick Warren (p.53)
4. Where is God’s glory?
Everything created by God reflects it in some
way from the smallest form of life to the vast
Milky Way, from sunsets to storms - creation
reveals God’s glory.
“The heavens declare the glory of God.”
Ps. 19:1(NIV)
6. Eden, Adam, Eve, Burning
Bush, Tabernacle, Temple
In the Bible how do we see
God’s glory revealed?
Consuming Fire, Smoke,
Cloud, Thunder, Light
7. Eden, Adam, Eve, Burning
God’s glory is best seen in
Bush, Tabernacle, Temple
Jesus
In the Bible how do we see
God’s glory revealed?
Heb 1:3, 2 Cor 4:6
Consuming Fire, Smoke,
John 1:14
Cloud, Thunder, Light
8. God’s glory is inherent to him - nothing we
do can make God more glorious.
But, we are commanded to recognize His
glory, honor His glory, declare His glory, praise
His glory, reflect His glory, and live for His
glory. 1 Chron. 16:24;Ps. 29:1; 66:2; 96:7; 2
Cor. 3:18
Why?
9. Because He deserves it!
“You are worthy, O Lord our
God, to receive glory and
honor and power. For You
created everything.”
Rev. 4:11a (NLT)
14. Living for God’s glory is the greatest
achievement we can accomplish with our
lives. God says,
“They are My own people, and I
created them to bring Me glory.”
Isa. 43:7(TEV)
So it ought to be the supreme goal of our life.
15. How can I bring glory to God? By doing what
Jesus did. Jesus told the Father,
“I brought glory to You here on earth by
doing everything You told Me to do.”
Jn. 17:4 (NLT)
Jesus honored God by fulfilling His purpose
on earth. We honor God the same way.
17. We bring God glory by
worshiping Him
“Use your whole body as a tool to do
what is right for the glory of God.”
Rom. 6:13b(NLT)
18. In commanding us to glorify him,
God is inviting us to enjoy him
CS Lewis
19. God is most glorified in us when
we are most satisfied in him
John Piper
20. God wants our worship to be
motivated by love, thanksgiving
and delight, not duty.
Warren, PDL (p. 55)
21. Worship is more than singing,
praise and prayer...is a lifestyle of
enjoying God, loving him and
giving ourselves to be used for his
purposes
Warren, PDL (p. 56)
22. We bring God glory by
loving other believers
“Accept each other just as Christ has
accepted you; then God will be glorified.”
Rom.15:7
23. You are now part of the family of God
- not just believing but belonging
How do you love the family of God?
24. 14We know that we
have passed from
death to life,
because we love
our brothers.
Anyone who does
not love remains in
death.
1 John 3:14
25. We bring God glory by
becoming like Christ
We should grow to spiritual maturity -
that is becoming like Jesus
And we, who with unveiled faces all
reflect the Lord's glory, are being
transformed into his likeness with ever-
increasing glory, which comes from the
Lord, who is the Spirit.
26. “May you always be filled with the fruit of
your salvation—those good things that
are produced in your life by Jesus Christ
—for this will bring much glory and praise
to God.”
Phil. 1:11
41. “God has given gifts to each of you from
His great variety of spiritual gifts.
Manage them well so that God’s
generosity can flow through you……Are
you called to help others? Do it with all
the strength and energy that God
supplies. Then God will be given glory.”
1 Pet. 4:10-11 & 2 Cor. 8:19b
42. We bring God glory by
telling others about Him
God’s love and purpose is not meant to
be a secret - one you know it, tell it!
“As God’s grace brings more and more
people to Christ,….God will receive more
and more glory.”
2 Cor. 4:15
43. What will you live for?
Living the rest of your life for the glory of
God will first begin with a change in
mindset.
Then it will require a change in your
priorities, your schedule, your
relationships, and everything else.
44. This is not easy - even Jesus prayed,
"Now my heart is troubled, and what
shall I say? 'Father, save me from this
hour'? No, it was for this very reason I
came to this hour. Father, glorify your
name!"
John 12:27-28
45. "Listen carefully: Unless a grain of wheat
is buried in the ground, dead to the
world, it is never any more than a grain of
wheat. But if it is buried, it sprouts and
reproduces itself many times over. In the
same way, anyone who holds on to life
just as it is destroys that life. But if you let
it go, reckless in your love, you'll have it
forever, real and eternal.
John 12:24-25
46. God invites us to live for his glory by
fulfilling the purposes he made us for.
To do this you have to commit totally to
Jesus Christ;
Believe God has chosen you for
relationship with Jesus
Receive Jesus into your life as your Lord
and Saviour
When Franco Zeffirelli was making his film, "Jesus of Nazareth" in 1975, one of the biggest decisions he faced was who to cast in the role of Jesus himself. The British actor Robert Powell auditioned for another part in the movie, but when Zeffirelli looked at him through the camera lens, he immediately saw in Powell the face of Jesus. The film Zeffirelli went on to make has been seen by millions of people around the world and is said to have shaped the way they imagine he looked. Is this a good or a bad thing? Reviewers of the movie are divided. He was and still is the most magnificent Christ in the history of cinema. Looking at him it seems like seeing Jesus in person," is one typically positive comment. Steve Humphries-Brooks, a religious studies professor, thinks otherwise. "Zeffirelli's movie was the most interesting of movie portrayals of Christ, but it was beset by the 'surfer Jesus' problem. There in the middle of the Mediterranean is Jesus as a blue-eyed blonde.“
Despite the critics, "Jesus of Nazareth" shows many people a Christ they can recognise and identify with – even if they are mostly western and white-skinned.
Sadly, the laughter of Jesus isn't recorded in the Gospels. While one famous verse tells us that "Jesus wept", there's no verse which tells us, "Jesus laughed".But his parables and saying show that Jesus had a playful – and sometimes wicked – sense of humour. He had a nice line in camel jokes, for instance. "Ever hear the one about the camel trying to squeeze through the eye of a needle?" he asked. "Or the camel that fell in someone's drink without them even noticing?" The laughter of Jesus shown in the picture above reminds us that Jesus was a real, flesh-and-blood human being. Some people of his time thought he had a bit too much fun, calling him a glutton and a drunkard. This picture of Jesus laughing has another side to it, though. Although no one knows who made the picture, it is said to come from Latin America and is popular among poor communities. Despite the poverty and injustice suffered by poor people around the world, this image of Jesus speaks of hope, that the chains of oppression will be broken and people and communities will be free to become all that they are meant to be.
Scott Blake, from Savannah, Georgia, makes portraits which combine art with technology. He says: "As a computer artist, I am in the business of selling pixels. The bar code represents technology, efficiency and commodities. It is the universal icon for the computer revolution."Scott has produced several images of the face of Jesus, and all of them are made up of thousands of individual bar codes. Starting with a scanned image taken from a Shroud of Turin hologram card, Scott matched the light areas of the face with light bar codes, and the shadowed areas with dark bar codes. It took his computer four days to produce the final image, which is almost 1.4 metres square. The image above has an extra element. "I used individual words from the Bible's book of Revelation that I bar coded to paint a portrait of Jesus," Scott explains. If you click here, you can view a close-up of the image showing the individual bar codes. Each code is made from a word taken from the text of the book of Revelation: words such as king, sand, jasper, waters and healed.
