1. New Innovations in Pallet Trucks
They are tools used to lift and move pallets (sometimes called skids), which are flat
transport structures that support goods in a stable way while they are being lifted. It is
used in several industries, including:

Types of Pallet Trucks
1. Powered
Also known as electrical pallet jacks, walkies, power pallet trucks or pallet jacks these can come as single or double pallet
jacks and are motorized to allow lifting and moving of heavier stacked pallets. The way that a powered pallet jack is
moved is by using a throttle on the handle to move forward or reverse. The device is steered by swinging the handle in the
intended direction.
Plugging is a system where the driver turns the throttle from forward to reverse (or vice versa) to slow and stop the
machine. Some power pallet jacks contain a dead man’s switch, which is an important safety feature that is used instead of
a brake to stop the machine if the operator needs to stop in an emergency, such as to stop quickly or leave the machine
while it’s still in use.
2. Printers
Include a weighting mechanism to allow you to weigh goods and then print out the weight or other specifications.
3. Scissor
These types use a lifting mechanism to lift goods and pallets to higher areas. They are used to stack the highest shelves
and are excellent to use when space is limited because they manoeuvre so well. This type is often used to take goods off
of a truck or van as well.
4. Walk behind Trucks
These are called walk behind trucks because you literally walk behind them while pushing the load. Hydraulic systems
manually pump the truck or it is pumped by some sort of electromotor.

2. Pallet Truck Safety

safe but the disadvantage is sometimes they can’t handle the heaviest of loads. The deadman switch is another key safety
feature and is really a necessary safety precaution.
New Innovations in Pallet Truck Technology
There are a number of these that have been designed with safety, durability and practicality in mind, however the industry
is continuously changing and so is pallet truck technology. Two new innovations include developments by Walmart and
Mitsubishi.
Walmart has recently completed trials for a hydrogen-powered electric pallet truck. This new-zero-emission trucks have
exceeded uptime, fuelling, environmental and safety targets.
Mitsubishi has used an AC motor in its new pedestrian power pallet trucks, which has greatly increased power when
compared to pallet trucks using a DC motor. As well, the AC motored pallet truck has improved traction and ramp
performance, maximum torque and comes with excellent safety features, including the ability to auto brake on slopes,
ensuring safe gradient handling.
