Biz Kid$ …
• Biz Kid$ is a fun, fast-paced public TV series where
kids teach kids about money and business
                     • Teaches with comedy & spoofs on
                     movies &TV shows
                     • Each show features young
                     entrepreneurs and social
                     entrepreneurs succeeding in
                     business (handbag designer,
                     podcast host, dog groomer, etc.)
• Key Ideas: using credit wisely, saving,
budgeting, investing, donating, and how to run a
business

                 Session Goals
• Advantages and how-to’s of credit unions
working with their local public TV (PBS)
  affiliates using Biz Kid$.
• Ideas for Biz Kid$ in schools or for
  informal organizations
• Biz Kid$ contests in the community
• Get Biz Kid$ DVDs into the schools for
  teachers to use

                                                         2

                                                                  3
Finding PBS Stations

         What should I expect from
                stations?
Stations vary in capacity based on size and funding.
• All broadcast programs they select for their audience
• Stations do promotions/marketing (on-air, online, in print)
• Some stations present shows that independent
producers bring them if it fits program selection
  parameters
• Some stations do outreach/education/training
    – Events (members, general public, schools, etc.)
    – Training services

As with all institutions: projects require funding so many times it is
necessary to partner to raise funds from an outside source to fund
   initiatives

                                                                         4
What should I expect from
              stations?
• Some stations produce one or more of the following:
   – Tune-in spots
   – Educational spots (30 sec. – 1. min) to air between
shows (since PBS does not air commercials)
   – Shows such as specials (1 time show)
   – Occasional documentaries for membership or general
     interest
   – Series: (daily, weekly, monthly)
   – Stations need a place in their broadcast to put
productions (i.e. Can’t produce news reports if they
     have no local news program)
Productions cost money to create
