How does your media product represent particular social groups
1.
2. House Style
My media product reflects particular social groups in varied ways. One of the ways in
which is through the house style.
I used the colours Red, Yellow and Black for my magazine. I chose these colours after I
did the audience questionnaire and found that most people associated these colours to
the “Indie” genre.
These colours also represent both genders, challenging the colour stereotype or both
genders.
3. Indar magazine is particularly suited for indie music fans ages
around 15-19 year olds.
The way the magazine displays this is through the use of clothes
and instruments.
I also used some photo effects to make the magazine more
appealing.
I wanted to create a bit of a moody look with the magazine but
keeping it upbeat with my colour scheme. This is mainly used in the
cinematography.
4. Age
• The target age range of my audience was
about 15-25 year olds. I think my magazine
represents this age well because of the way it
is layout and even the way it is written
(informal).
• Also I tried to use varied fonts to address my
audience, being bold and unique.
5. Gender representations
The models I used for my magazine are mainly females. I used this
purposefully because I wanted to go against the codes and conventions
of a standard magazine.
Males are stereotyped to be the “rockers” and I didn’t want to stick to
this stereotype so used mainly girl models except from my double page
spread when I interviewed the band.
I think my magazine represents the indie and rock genre well because of
these things, especially the gender representation.
